Marvin Williams has decided to sign with the Sacramento Kings. The Kings and Trailblazers have been after Marvin for about a week, and we have recently decided to choose the Kings. Some quick reasoning: both teams wanted to use Marvin as a backup PF type player, and while they each have a nice PF/C player (Birdman for SAC and Amir Johnson for POR), POR's starting bigs are rated better than SAC's starting bigs. Meaning there could be more of a chance Marvin gets minutes in a small lineup in SAC.
We also saw a greater likelihood that SAC might trade some other players on his roster who are on one year deals (say, Granger?), which would open up more minutes for Marvin, potentially.
It was a close call, but this just felt like the right decision in the end.
Contract with the Kings:
Year 1: $490,180
Year 2: $544,100 (PO)
Total: $1,034,280
