I just saw this Reddit thread and the website calls its type of fantasy league Dynasty Leagues. Does anyone know exactly what a Dynasty League system is? Is that what we have here? If it's not what we have here, what do we call our type of league? I'd be tempted to call us a Legacy League since every move that's made leaves a legacy behind. The reason I don't like normal fantasy basketball is that there's no sense of actually owning and controlling a team using your NBA knowledge.

Not really sure what that Reddit thread is about, but Dynasty leagues are a type of fantasy league that allows you to keep a certain number of players in exchange for their positions in the draft.
For example, if a fantasy league began in 2012, Paul George would be a keeper because he was definitely drafted much lower than he would be at the moment.

I always considered this to be a "sim league" since we literally simulate everything that happens. Most fantasy basketball is basically just boxscore mining. We have like an alternate reality though, which is a lot more engaging imo.

I would be tempted to call this a "Sim Keepers League". We use NBA2K to sim and we get to keep our players each season. That doesn't have near the pizazz as a "Dynasty" or "Legacy" league. Maybe a "Dynasty Keepers League"? LOL

Using NBA 2k13 would be terrible. You can't download boxscores or stats or anything else user friendly from NBA Live. It would just be a pain in the ass to work with.

We're using NBA 2K for the off-season league to test the engine. It's not terrible, you just screenshot the statistics, results, and whatever else, and post them here. Sure but the boxscore only has like 5 lines in it. So to get the whole roster Ian has to take 3 screenshots per team per game? The average night has like 5-10 games. So he needs to take 30-60 screenshots everyday, then upload them, then post them to the forum. That's a nightmare.

Taking screen shots sucks big donkey balls. The old Memphis GM and I ran an American Football Sim League and man did that require tonssss of work!

Between me and my dad last year, we made around $1000 off fantasy bball.

A re-draft league starts over at square 1 each year.
A keeper league allows for you to "keep" a pre-determined number of players. If this was an auction league there might be a cost associated with keeping a player. If it were a regular draft, then you might have to give up a certain pick in the draft to keep the player. Sometimes, there is no cost as you just pick any players to keep.
A Dynasty league is one that allows you to keep your entire roster each year. Usually there is a rookie draft and sometimes a free agent draft but in a dynasty league, few free agents are of any quality. There is usually no ending time table to these types of leagues.
I would consider this a "Dynasty Sim League" as we bring back our entire roster from year to year and the results are simmed. Also, there is no official end date.

Dynasty Leagues you keep all players from the end of one year to the beginning of the next. Keeper leagues are where you keep your "top 5" (or however many) each year, sometimes at a cost (you could choose to not keep any and then get the first 5 picks in the draft or something like that). This is definitely a Sim league, to me. We are simulating real life all around. We sign players to contracts, can trade them and for them, taking on their contracts in the process, and we are the ones choosing the salary, not just using the real-life salaries.
