Very interesting. I was under the impression that a four-year contract was the maximum amount of years to be given to a free-agent that didn't qualify for bird years, I know I'm not alone in this assertion, but it seems like we're all wrong: Since when was this rule implemented? It's always been this way. Literally for years and years. Most or all of the rules for this D5 are taken directly from the old D5. It was the NBA that changed with the new CBA, not us.

I know it's like this for the NBA, but two days before free-agency started when I was making my offer sheets, the rule was a maximum of four years with five years only being available for players who qualified for bird years. It's just a shock because there was no prior indication of a rule change. We have very many rules that do not directly correlate to the NBA. For example, team options not counting against cap. We're changing this, but there was a massive announcement about it. There was no rule change. Where did you get the idea that it was a max of 4 years? Was it written somewhere or did you assume that's how it was?

As I said before, two days before free-agency started, the original rule was: Four Years for all free-agents with the exception of players who qualify for bird years who can receive five years. So you are saying that in the OSFA rule thread that's what it said? This thread: dynasty5ive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=13What you took a screen shot of for this thread used to say this? "Four Years for all free-agents with the exception of players who qualify for bird years who can receive five years."

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to say. I don't know when it changed, it could have been the first day of free-agency or today. It's just that there was no prior announcement of a rule change. I edited my post while you were replying, sorry. Ok, I'm glad we understand each other, but the issue is this: what you are saying is simply incorrect. I can remember many times going back to that thread to verify something and it hasn't changed once. That thread was taken almost word for word from this thread from 2008: dynastyfive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=info&action=display&thread=258More evidence that the rule isn't new: dynasty5ive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=osfa&action=display&thread=1494I signed Goran Dragic to a 5 year contract last year and I didn't have his bird rights.
