Off Season Free AgencyOSFA gets started this Saturday, check the OSFA section for information. GMs please be aware that this is the time of the season which is most unfair. If we get through it without anyone quitting it will be a good OSFA period. Please gird your loins for disappointment and be prepared to make strong offers to the players you wish to sign or keep!

Ian could you address player promises?
I had no idea this was a thing until the Omer Asik issue came up with the Kings last year. So as I currently understand it, promises to free agents (such as promising a starting position) can be part of negotiations and are kept track of. If these promises are broken a player will demand a trade or something that resolves the issue. Is this correct?

That's correct. For instance I wanted to play Kanter at centre and Garnett at power forward but could not do so because I had signed Brandon Bass on the promise he would get starters minutes and he would request a trade if that condition wasn't met.
I'm not going to keep a record of all these promises, I think it will be implemented best if its just left to us player agents to pay attention, I think that using that imperfect system will create a situation in which not all free agents with broken promises will cause a fuss - which is realistic.

We should not put anyone else through the whole Asik situation!
