Dawn of a new era in Cleveland?Cavaliers acquire Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett from the Boston Celtics July 13, 2013 (AP) - In a shocking move just hours leading up to the start of the D5 Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded the second and fifth overall selections in the draft to the Boston Celtics for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Austin Daye and Byron Mullens were also sent to the Celtics. In one of the biggest moves made by general manager Dan Gilbert since moving Kyrie Irving and the 10th overall pick in the 2012 D5 draft (used to draft Dion Waiters) for Andrew Bynum and Kyle Lowry, it would appear he is now trying to get his team into title contention. "We are forced to make some major moves this off-season." states Gilbert. "It's always tough trading away two top five picks in any draft, but we felt this move needed to be made. Paul (Pierce) and Kevin (Garnett) are two great professionals and will help change the culture of Cleveland. We haven't been able to be at the position we wanted to be Post LeBron, and we definitely think bringing in two future hall of famers will change that. We also think bringing them in will help attract some notable free agents and help us keep some of our own free agents." Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett previously won the inaugural D5 Championship with Boston and just fought back from a 3-0 hole to the Miami Heat in the conference semi-finals. "It's tough being traded from the only place you have ever played." said Pierce minutes after news broke of the trade. "I had a feeling it would happen, Boston was looking to go in a different direction. I wish the Celtics best of luck in the future. I'm looking forward to playing for the Cavaliers and bringing them a championship. I know it won't be easy but I feel we got some pieces and Kevin and myself will be able to recruit some of those missing pieces that Cleveland needs to not only make the playoffs but win a title." Time will tell what this move will do for the Cavaliers, but it would appear fans will no longer have to worry about not seeing Cleveland in the playoffs.

Cavs looking to get back into the first round? July 14, 2013 5:16PM EST (CPD) - It would appear the Cavaliers are not done trying to improve the roster. After trading both of the teams first round picks, it sounds like the Cavs are trying to get back into the first round. The team currently has the 35th, 37th and 45th picks of the draft, all of which are in the second round. GM Dan Gilbert has contacted several teams, gauging interest in those picks and trying to strike a deal to get a first round pick.

Cavs shopping Larry Sanders? July 14, 2013 9:30 PM ESTReports out of Cleveland are that the Cavaliers are in exploratory talks to move back-up big man Larry Sanders. Sanders, traded to the Cavs from the Milwaukee Bucks, has spent time in and out of the starting line-up. Most recently he has been the back-up to Andrew Bynum after being benched at power forward for Byron Mullens.

Cleveland back in the top 10? July 16, 2013 12:15 AM ESTIt would appear the Cavaliers management has their eye on someone in the first round of this years D5 Draft. Just days after trading both the second and fifth selections, General Manager Dan Gilbert has inquired about obtaining a selection in the top ten of this years selection, even possibly acquiring the fifth pick again. "We're looking at all options." states Gilbert. "We can't sit here and say we haven't contacted anyone about their picks. I'm testing the waters at this point, seeing what teams what and need for these picks. We'd love to get a pick in the top ten of any draft. We're looking at a few guys that we really like. We'll see what happens soon."

This is a great thread Mr Gilbert! Keep it up! + I like the colour of your text, Cleveland. I'll change your team's official text colour to "maroon"

Cavs pass on Derrick Williams to trade for Pierce and Garnett? July 18, 2013 9:10 PM ESTNews coming out of Cleveland is that the Cavaliers initially were going to trade the fifth pick in the 2013 D5 Draft to the Indiana Pacers for Derrick Williams. "Discussions were made between myself and Mr. Bird yes." says General Manager Dan Gilbert. "Initially we were trying to acquire Danny Granger but talks quickly shifted to a Williams for the fifth pick. We would've loved to have a young and talented player like Derrick on our squad, but with our new direction we couldn't wait for him to live up to his potential. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to acquire two of the games greatest." Williams has since been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Cavaliers finally move back into the 1st round! July 20, 2013 12:10 PM EST - Pending league approval. the Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the draft rights to Sergey Karasev, taken with the 23rd pick in this years D5 Draft. The Cavs have been trying to acquire a pick in the 1st round since trading both of their selections to the Boston Celtics. They almost had a deal done for the 5th pick but talks stalled out and Orlando drafted Trey Burke. "This deal with the (Los Angeles) Lakers has been on the table for quite some time." says Dan Gilbert, Cavs General Manager. "We initially contacted Lakers management soon after trading our 1st rounders to try and get back into the 1st round. They wanted to see who would fall to their pick, and we were trying to acquire a pick in the top 10. Nothing come to fruition for us and the Lakers nabbed their man with pick 22, so we pulled the trigger. It is tough giving up three selections, but we feel the price was necessary to get a player of Karasev's talents. He's really poised and mature for a 19 year old kid. We're excited to have him learn the game under Paul Pierce." Sergey Karasev played for the Russian National Team in the 2012 Olympics and led the VTB United League club, Triumph Lyubertsy, in scoring.

Cavs to make splash in Free Agency? July 23, 2013 10:30 PM EST - With the recent moves made by the Cavaliers, are they now in prime position to land a top tier free agent? With names like Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Josh Smith and their very own Andrew Bynum, could this be the off-season the fans of Cleveland have been hoping for? "We gotta try right?" said Mr. Gilbert. "We have to at least gauge interest from some of these guys to see if they want to play here. Cleveland is a great city, but it won't be an easy task trying to convince some of the best player in the game to come play here. We got good pieces, but this isn't a Los Angeles or a New York, we have to sell this city to whoever we feel fits our team and the direction we're headed. It'll be tough but this is gonna be one hell of an off-season!"
