I don't think we should drop the discussion. If this was a rule in the past, then it is clearly one people were unaware of because it is catching everyone by surprise now. I know, as a player agent last season, I included team options when seeing if teams have cap room... its just the logical thing to do. I really don't see why its a big deal to change it to the way it should be, everyone seems to be in agreement that it needs to be done.

Regardless if it was the rule in the past, it should be fixed. This is extremely unrealistic. I have 2 questions then: 1. Does that mean Player Options don't count against your cap then too? 2. Why is the rule being changed next season?

1. Does that mean Player Options don't count against your cap then too? 2. Why is the rule being changed next season? 1. The Trade Committee decides whether or not a player will pick up their option before Off Season Free Agency begins, so that's how we know. On the League Salaries Database, POs are automatically included, just as TOs will be after this season. 2. Because some teams have planned around using TOs to shed cap space. Also the Salaries Database has never included TOs in teams cap space situations, so all teams have planned their Off Season Free Agency hopes around figures that do not include TOs.

I understand everyone's concerns on this, and I understand that it's stupid we didn't include TOs before, but given the position I find us in I feel it's best to continue as I outlined in the original post.

I cleared a crap ton of cap space and now EVERYONE has as much or more than me.

Are you telling me that, instead of relying on the League Salaries Database, that you painstakingly reconstructed every other teams cap situation to include TOs throughout the year whilst you were assessing your teams Off Season Free Agency chances?

I know how this works in the NBA, and TO's must be picked up before any free agents are signed to any rosters. I think it should be the same way here as well. Mirror the NBA!
