**The Hornets have found their Queen**Markelle's suitors throughout the process (Orlando, Portland, Houston, Toronto) were all, at some point, around 4 years and $40M. Not necessarily starting positions available in all locations, either. Though, it was a long off-season to this point, so things changed frequently. A few days ago, Alex English's Denver Nuggets snuck into the party with a 4 year, $46M offer. The field balked. "Is that a legal contract?" was the response from at least two teams, having apparently momentarily forgotten that you can increase by the Minimum Contract if it's larger than 7.5%. But not Alex, that sneaky minx. And yet! Upon missing out on CP3, James Kay swoops in and plants his stinger in the center of the whole process! The other suitors fell one by one, very rapidly. No one else has the money. All wish him well in his new home. They can see the writing on the walls, plain as day. TOTAL GUARANTEED: $52,725,000 Potential Total: $67,450,000
Year 1: $19,000,000 Year 2: $17,575,000 Year 3: $16,150,000 Year 4: $14,725,000 (TO) While we normally do not want a Team Option in the contract, in this case we felt it was okay. The first three years, on their own, out-pace the previous best 4-year offer by about $7M. And, year 4 of this deal, while it could be a "bargain" by that time, is still the highest single year in any contract that was offered up until this time. So, it felt like a no brainer. Congratulations to the Charlotte Hornets!
