We had a short chat in discord earlier about a new injury system, so I thought I would write it up here for everyone to consider.
Regular Season: - If a player does not play for 30 consecutive calendar days in real-life, that player is considered injured - An injured player is placed on the IR in D5 at the in-game date that corresponds with the real life injury - An injured player is removed from the IR in D5 at the in-game date that corresponds with the real life return
Regular Season Example: Player A is injured in real life on March 1. On March 31, Player A has missed 30 consecutive calendar days and thus is considered injured. Once March 1 rolls around in the D5 sim, Player A is placed on the D5 IR.
Player A returns from injury on the real life date of April 15. When the D5 sim date of April 15 rolls around, Player A is removed from the D5 IR.
Playoffs: - If a player goes down in real-life during the playoffs or with less than 30 days remaining in the regular season, the injury is evaluated for severity - For a clear "season-ender" or "out indefinitely" injury, based on Rotoworld or other credible reporting, the player will be placed on the IR in D5 at the in-game date or playoff game that corresponds with the real life injury. Examples of these injuries include torn achilles tendon, grade 3 ACL tears, broken leg, etc. - For a day-to-day or injury that could otherwise not be considered a season-ender, the player is not placed on the IR in D5
Playoff Example: Player B is injured in real life during Game 3 of the 2nd Round. The injury is considered a season-ender. Once Game 3 of the 2nd Round rolls around in the D5 sim, Player B is placed on the D5 IR.
Player C is injured in real life during Game 3 of the 2nd Round. The injury is considered to be an 8 week injury based on credible reporting. Player C is not placed on the D5 IR at any point.

Sounds good to me!
One thing to consider is we have to maintain that >30 day buffer between real life and sim dates. This isn't a problem for us currently (Jan. 6th in sim and Feb. 15 real life) and not sure if Ian runs the games on a scheduled basis, but we wouldn't want to close that gap.

I hope Ian will not be pressured in implementing something if it is already too much for his plate.

One initial note from me: "indefinitely" does not mean "a long time" or anything like that. It just means they haven't figured it out yet. Or, perhaps, are choosing not to give specifics yet. But indefinitely can end up being day-to-day or a season ender. It's just not defined yet.
So, I'd like to see that part of this thing clarified, at least.

Will also create some really interesting trade wrinkles. At what level of player do you choose TO trade for or NOT to trade for, I'd you know they're going to be removed from the game in the 3rd game of the 2nd round? Just interesting.

Yeah I think some people misunderstand what indefinitely means. It's just a blanket term for undefined or don't know the timeline

Good thing about the 30day delay would be that you can get updates for players listed out indefinitely. If after 30days team has not given a estimated time of return (or re-evaluation time) it's quite likely that indefinitely means really long time

Yeah I'm on board with this system, I just need to work out how we do it - don't really want to rely on just us noticing when a player should be added.
I do have a working system that can automatically ping the Rotoworld website once per day to check for us.
