Even though he is just a rookie, an increase is already needed. Mobley might be honestly one of the top 5 defenders in the NBA already. Cavs are now 3rd best defense in NBA and it’s a lot to do with him (Allen obviously also).
He is averaging 12.7 shots contested per game which is 3rd best in the NBA. When a 2-point shot is contested by Mobley, the opponent shooting percentage drops by 10.3%, which is the best in the league by anyone with a lot of contested shots.
At the rim (<6ft) the opponent shooting percentage drops by 15% when defended by Mobley. (For Gobert same number is 11.8%)
He has quick enough feet to stay in front of almost all guards on switches.
And basically all this by only fouling 2 times per game is pretty amazing.
In offense he is a good all around player already. Good mid-range shot and has a respectable three point shot also although doesn’t take many yet. Good passer, and the Cavs often give the ball to him around the freethrow line area where he can either find the open man or take the shot/drive. Also gets surprisingly lot of iso-plays where he can drive past his man and take this nice hook to finish.
