I accept. That 2024 Pick of DET is the one I really love here. DET and PHI have good luck in Draft. Adding Coby White will boost our chances in the East. He's still young. He can still improve his game. ^^

I accept. It’s tough to give up Coby White, but we think it’s time to move on. Adding Simons and Mudiay to fill out the bench helps. With the 2022 1st and the 2024 pick swaps, I couldn’t refuse.

Kareem you posted in the Shoutbox that really wanted to trade away your future picks for a player on their rookie contract at 3:30UTC yesterday and within less than 24 hours had found a method of ejecting both those valuables for a sub-par return.
I guess at least you had time to make a rude, arsey response to my enquiry about the picks.

Is there anyone else than Kareem who thinks Washington will actually be in the winning side of the 2024 pick swap with Detroit?

Coby White is a terrible return— he’s already been supplanted in Chicago and will be a Sixth Man at best for them. Not to mention he is easily a bottom 10 defender in the entire League and is coming off a major shoulder injury to his shooting arm that he STILL isn’t fully recovered from. It’s no surprise DET wanted to move on— two years out and it’s clear it was a bad selection by them at #6 overall.

You want to dick around with your team fine, but don't sell the future that someone else will need to pick up the pieces when you're gone.

I think there’s been a of an overreaction with this trade, White’s value, and of course the overvaluing of picks which we all know everybody does.. Not really going to get into it too much, but I will say Coby White is 21 years old and put up 15/5/4 his sophomore year and I’ve seen people say he’ll be out of the league soon. Come on man.

Not really going to get into it too much, but I will say Coby White is 21 years old and put up 15/5/4 his sophomore year and I’ve seen people say he’ll be out of the league soon. Come on man. White is the definition of a ‘net negative’ player despite decent counting stats. He’s had a negative BPM on both ends by a lot, negative RAPTOR, barely neutral Wins Above Replacement compared to the average NBA player, and his own team signed two guards — Ball and Caruso — plus another ball handler (DeRozan) in a clear signal they’ve seen enough of his play to know his value going forward. The idea that he’d be out of the League soon, I agree, is ludicrous, but the flip side that he’s some guy who will explode into an impact starter is just as ludicrous Edit: One other point too— YOU even reached the same conclusion as the Bulls by signing a max level, young guard in DeJounte Murray and are essentially telling White to piss off to the bench. If you had that much faith in him, you wouldn’t have effectively replaced him as a starter

This trade is bad. Coby White sucks, he's going to lose most of his minutes to Lonzo this season, so the illusion his box score stats might give him as a good young player should disappear. He's just a future back up point guard. Anfernee Simons might actually be the most valuable player in this trade imo. So the return looks pretty shitty, but the risk with these picks is huge for Washington. This looks like it's setting up for more long term pain for what's already the perennially worst team in D5.
On the other hand, does it really matter if Kareem wants to see this through? He's been in D5 for 6 years, how much risk is there in him abandoning the team? I think it's a good thing he's doing something different after things clearly weren't working. I think everyone agrees this isn't the right answer though.
I guess I reject. If these picks are on the block for longer then a much better trade should come along. This is D5, picks are valued like crazy, two 1sts should net a mid 80s rated player for sure with a bit of patience.

I've really been back and forth on this; I think I basically echo Alex's thoughts. I trust that Kareem is going to stick around, for sure. I just think the value here is quite bad.
Wouldn't be the first time we as a TC were wrong, and maybe White turns into something. BUT, that actually does not change his current perceived value around the league, which is very, very low. If you want Coby White, go get him, but pay way, way less.
