I want to propose a change to the rules starting this season.
- Bird Rights carry across from real-life into Dynasty Five. If a player played with your team for at least 3 seasons you will have his Bird Rights. Players on their rookie contract only need to stay with a team for 2 seasons in order to get his bird rights.
I think that since we don't have restricted FAs, players with rookie contracts should have some sort of advantage when it comes to bird rights.
Thoughts?

I assume: "at least 3 seasons" equals "3 full seasons". Maybe, I am wrong but when I asked Walt he said that’s how it worked.

I'm not sure what the logic is for having rookie contract players earn their bird rights faster than other players. Especially since 1st rounders sign for 5 years and 2nd rounders sign for 3 years.
I would like clarification on "3 seasons" though. I traded for Harden on July 13th, he played 44 games for me this year and he has two years left. I have no plans to trade him so assuming he stays a Nugget till he becomes a free agent I feel that he should qualify for bird rights. Two and a half years is a ridiculously long time for a player to go untraded in a sim league.
Bird rights here are actually much more restricted than in real life where bird rights are tradeable and players qualify for "early bird rights" after two seasons where the contracts they can sign are limited.
Rookie contract players earning bird rights before everyone doesn't make much sense to me but I would support making bird rights still untradeable but having all players qualify after just two full years. This would match with early bird rights in the NBA and makes a lot more sense for the scale of time for a sim league. There are also no retroactive effects since we've only played one season so far.

About not making a difference for players under rookie contract, this is what I think:
1) Sure, it is an advantage in most cases that rookies have a 5th year of contract but i still would prefer to have restricted FAs with qualifying offers. I think, the value of players under rookie contract decrease a lot without having the restricted FA option.
2) A player that do not have a rookie contract, signed as FA. That means a team made a commitment to that player. Having those 3 years of bird rights rewards loyalty.

Alex English, i would still prefer what you propose rather than what we have now.

There are many rules different in our sim league. I do not think we should change rules during this offseason or this season because some Gms may have made moves to those rules. I say right after the finals. Right before anything else would b the time to do that.
Two other rules I would like to enforce.
1. Not Being able to trade signed players after OFA for a considerable time. I would say 30 days.
2. Players traded for: if u trade for players those players should not b able to be traded for 60 days In any package trade involving more than one individual. If u trade one player for another than it would be ok. At least that's the rule I think the nba has.
