2022/23: $185,482,500 (150% of Salary Cap) 2021/22: $168,621,000 (150% of Salary Cap) 2020/21: $163,710,000 (150% of Salary Cap) 2019/20: $163,710,000 (150% of Salary Cap) 2018/19: $178,270,750 (175% of Salary Cap) 2017/18: $198,186,000 (200% of Salary Cap) 2016/17: $207,114,600 (220% of Salary Cap) 2015/16: $161,000,000 (230% of Salary Cap)
Trades must not take a team above the Hard Cap. If you are over the Hard Cap every trade must decrease your team's total salary.
On the day the Rookie Draft starts, if your team is projected to be over the Hard Cap when salaries progress on the following July 1st (usually less than a week later), you lose all your picks in that Draft.
- Team Options cannot be picked up on a player if it takes a team above the Hard Cap.
- Teams are allowed to exceed the Hard Cap via cap holds when claiming Bird Rights but cannot re-sign even Bird Rights players if they are over the Hard Cap after the signing.
- Player Options are still the decision of the player.
- The only time a player can be signed whilst over the Hard Cap is if a team is under the 12 player roster limit for the league minimum.

Hard Cap - Starting 20232024/25: (140% of Salary Cap) 2023/24: (145% of Salary Cap) 2022/23: (150% of Salary Cap) 2021/22: (150% of Salary Cap)
2020/21: $163,710,000 (150% of Salary Cap)
2019/20: $163,710,000 (150% of Salary Cap) 2018/19: $178,270,750 (175% of Salary Cap) 2017/18: $198,186,000 (200% of Salary Cap) 2016/17: $207,114,600 (220% of Salary Cap) 2015/16: $161,000,000 (230% of Salary Cap)
No transaction is allowed to take your team above the Hard Cap.
- If a trade requires league minimum signees to get a team's roster within roster limits, and that signing takes the team above the Hard Cap, then the original trade is voided.
Player Options are still the decision of the player. GMs must get their team below the Hard Cap before salaries progress if a Player Option takes their team above the Hard Cap.
Team Options cannot be picked up on a player if it takes a team above the Hard Cap. The Stretch RuleTeams who find themselves above the Hard Cap when salaries progress to the following year will have a player removed from their team and that player's contract stretched to as short a period as possible (but not exceeding five years) to get the team below the Hard Cap.
- Every attempt will be made to subjectively choose the lowest "value" player to be released and "stretched".
- Multiple players may require releasing/stretching to get a team under the Hard Cap.
- If the process of releasing/stretching players takes a team below the roster limits, the releasing/stretching will be conducted so as to also allow the league minimum signing of enough players for the team to get back within roster limits.

Update: slight amendment to clarify:
Triggered by the fact that Houston wants to claim BRs on Kemba Walker this off season, but will likely re-sign him for less than his cap hold.
