We would just like to start off by saying, this was not an easy decision. There have been numerous offers on the table for Tim. Many of the offers were from very good teams for the full MLE and we thought we had an idea of where Tim wanted to be. Then the other day, another team came in with a nice sized deal and a chance at pushing for a championship. With the recent moves this team has made in putting together a contender, we felt this team was the best choice for Mr. Duncan.
Without further ado, we would like to formally introduce Tim Duncan as the newest member of the Portland Trailblazers.
The contract Tim Duncan has signed is as follows:
Year 1: $6,500,000 Year 2: $7,215,000 Year 3: $8,008,650 (PO) Year 4: $8,889,601 (PO) Year 5: $9,867,457
We felt this was the best decision for Mr. Duncan for a few reasons. A few days ago it was known that JR Wiles did not even want to re-sign Duncan, as he went on a rant in the chat log. Tim also felt that while he wanted to retire a Spur, looking at the team overall, Tim felt the team was going in a different direction and he was no longer needed. Tim endured seeing his teammates Manu and Parker get departed, and knew that San Antonio was looking to go another direction.
Duncan felt comfortable going to Portland for a few reasons. One of them being that he got a nice pay day for what is most likely his last contract. Secondly, he wanted to stay in the west coast. While there were several other teams in the west like LAL and NOH, Tim felt that He was a better fit in Portland. Portland is a small market just like San Antonio, and Tim felt comfortable in that situation. With the additions of Jeremy Lin and Rudy Gay to the Trailblazers, Duncan knew Mr. Drexler was putting together something special.
Tim would like to thank the fans and city of San Antonio for all the wonderful years he had there. He's a bit sad that he couldn't retire a Spur, but felt it was in his best interest to move on and start a new chapter in his career.

Sad day in the world of imaginary sports. Awful GMing by JR Wiles, even if he wants to blow it up and rebuild, sign the guy and use him as trade bait. It's Tim fucking Duncan.
Though as the owner of the Spurs 2014 1st round pick, this significantly improves my chances of getting Andrew Wiggins.

Money had no affect in this negotiation JR. You could have offered all the money in the world, but you completely dismantled a championship contending team. Your best player currently is Ben Gordon. Duncan is trying to chase a championship, and you knew that going into negotiations. I have kept you in the loop throughout this process and tried to be fair to everyone. Portland put up a good offer, somewhat comparable to what Tim got in real life, and he has better pieces to put around Duncan. You don't have to cry about it and quit. Why not rebuild and show us what kind of GM you really are?

Whoa! If that's true we got ourselves a controversy. He said in the chatbox that he didnt want Tim Duncan lol Yeah, thats why I assumed he never even made an offer. But if he did actually offer the most money for Duncan then I can't see much of a reason why he wouldn't re-sign. Duncan would value loyalty more than chasing a championship. He's already got 4 of them.

He's already got 4 of them. Exactly why he left. Where was the loyalty to Manu and Parker? Or the rest of the Spurs roster? Loyalty was a big thing for Duncan, but at the end of the day, he's not gonna rot on a bad team just because of loyalty when the Spurs franchise have shown none to their other players.

Kinda hard to refute the GM saying in the chat log that he doesn't want Duncan. Pretty sure that helped pursued Duncan away.

In JR's defense, I think Duncan would take max to stay with the Spurs EVEN IF he has messed up that roster.

You don't know that for sure. We have seen players that have been loyal to one team an entire career, only to leave in free agency at a chance to win. Yes Duncan has 4 rings, but that's what he is all about... WINNING!

Plus you traded a majority of the core (and the young talented people) so the loyalty card wouldn't work. Also Tim has all the money in the world plus in the real world he chose less money for stability and championships. Even though I feel like glenn made the right choice I still feel like a proper resigning period would have stopped conflicts like this from happening.

Wow I totally missed this. JR I seriously hope you don't quit, you're one of the most dedicated guys here. Seriously man, you're an asset to the league and far more important than Tim Duncan here, please stay here, if only to rebuild.
This will be like watching Hakeem playing for the Raptors now. So wrong!

Hi. This is old bobcats assistant. I have been gone for some months but i am back. I can't believe that Spurs went from Duncan, Manu and Parker and 1 of deepest teams in the league to a group of overpaid old players and no single pick in the next 2 drafts? Glenn Robinson had all the right in the world to send Duncan elsewhere. Moreover, i think Duncan was Clippers' to get. They had Parker, Manu, Melo, Griffin and the full MLE waiting for Duncan to bring the big reunion and establish Clippers as a top 3 team in the league.

I would have offered for him in an instant. He would have been my #1 target based on available options. I just had no clue that he would sign for the MLE. I guess I blew it

I guess I blew it I offered him the MLE as soon as I could haha would have loved for him to be my starting center and make my team one of the most balanced in the league. Portland could offer more money and had a similar situation roster wise. Woo for 2nd place!

I don't see how he signs with the Clippers. I am sorry, but Jordan is WAY better than him at the center position.

Don't worry Ian, I'm not going anywhere. I spent too much time here to give up over an aging Duncan. He is a great player and I know he is going to do well in port and I wish him luck. I still don't agree with current Gms deciding for other teams but maybe we can fix that somehow later. Until then I guess it's rebuilding time unless I get lucky but I think most of the Gms here are friends so its gonna b hard to make any trades for youth. Just wanted to note that I Never meant to say I didn't want Duncan in that chat thread. It's just that a few jackass' pissed me off. But I said it and its time to move on...

I am glad you are staying JR. I I think I have been too hard on you and I am sorry about it. My intentions were not to hurt you, rather I am a huge Miami fan and hate the Spurs in real life. Thus, when you started talking about "Earning Respect and Beating Miami" I sort of got into the game and may have taken it to far. Sorry buddy! Now go build the Spurs up and make them better than ever; I mean who needs Timmy anyways?
