This trade for me is essentially combining two separate trade into one trade. I have been trying to get an expiring contract and a 2nd for Rudy Gay for awhile but couldn't seem to make it work with the few teams that were interested in him. Jay-Z offered me his part of the trade and I felt that was a solid deal. Hezonja is just a rental for the rest of the season and with already having Mo Wagner and Damian Jones, I don't have much need for Ante Zizic.

That trade gave me the ability to then move Zizic with my 2021 2nd in order to get rid of James Johnson's contract next year, which I can't imagine any scenarios in which he would decline his $10M player option.

While I would rather not move any draft picks, in order to get rid of James Johnson's $10M contract for the off-season it had to be done.


*I have also signed Ignas Brazdeikis to keep our roster at 12 players.

^I'm not very good at math sometimes, this trade actually kept us at 12 players without the signing. I still want to sign Ignas regardless.

For us, we are simply continuing to move around expiring pieces in order to get some additional picks.

For an expiring contract, we acquired Zizic on a rookie deal and a 2021 2nd round pick. James Johnson is getting decent minutes in the NBA but we are simply looking at him as a piece we can move next season as a $10M expiring.
