Was gonna hold out until the end of the season, but I guess that is probably now for the Hawks.
Current Rating: 82
Suggested Rating: 85
21.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.8 spg, 1.5 bpg
58.3% FG, 40.1% 3p, 80% FT
63.2% EFG, 65.9% TS
Putting up 58/40/80 splits (and that's with shooting 3.6 threes per game), John Collins put up one of the most efficient seasons of all time. The only players to ever put up more than 20ppg on more than 60% EFG are Wilt, LeBron, Steph, Barkley, Kareem, McHale, and Shaq, and only Barkley and Steph have ever done that in their first 5 seasons. He is an offensive machine from any spot on the floor. He's one of the smoothest players in the post, but also shoots over 40% on 3.6 threes per game. He is 5th in the league in TS%, and the only guy on that list who is a primary scorer for his team.
Perhaps most surprising this season has been his defense. Collins escalated up to 1.5 blocks per game (#11 in league), and his DBPM improved from -1.9 to -0.6. His DRtg (112) is the best of any Hawks starter, and he racked up more DWS than anyone else on the team, despite being suspended for 25 games. I am not here to claim he is an incredible defender, and he definitely struggles to defend bigs. However, he is much improving and at least average, if not above average, for the PF spot.
Finally, just looking at his impact. The Hawks were 15-26 (37% win) when Collins played, which isn't great, but they were 5-21 when he didn't play (24% win). The Hawks improved by 4.1 points per 100 possessions when he played, and Collins achieved a 124 ORtg compared to a 112 Drtg (+12 points per 100 while Collins plays), which is by far the best on the Hawks (compared to Trae negative impact 114 ORtg / 117 DRtg).
Players to average 20/10 this season:
Giannis
Jokic
Collins
In summary: all-time elite offense, average (but very improved) defense, great impact on a bad team.
