Houston trades:
72 Jose Calderon $3,500,000 69 Patrick McCaw $831,311
Contracts of:
Jared Sullinger $4,000,000 Diamond Stone $898,310 Damien Inglis $898,310 Wesley Iwundu $898,310
Total: $11,026,241 * 1.25 = $13,782,801
Minnesota trades:
77 Terrence Ross $13,500,000 $13,500,000
Houston new cap: $163,698,621 D5 Hard cap: $163,710,000
I've gone back and forth for a few days. I think Ross is a decent asset who is (was) playing hot the last month or so. He's a shooter and scorer that can slide into my SF position. He is likely not a long term solution, but he is an improvement in my starting 5. With the cap *potentially* shrinking, I may not have my MLE this upcoming summer. Originally, I was contemplating not doing this deal and targeting a free agent to fill my roster holes with my MLE...but this may no longer be an option.
Instead of wait and screw myself out of the ability to sign more players this summer, I thought it would be wise to go ahead and get something to hold onto, should my team end up over the new hard cap.

Agreed, from me.
I like Ross alright, but he simply doesn't really fit in with what I'm doing with my roster right now. I would have loved to have gotten a low-level piece like a 2nd, but no one really is after Ross so I would rather just clear the $13.5M off the roster for this off-season.
I have some other trades in the works, but this one either will further those plans or just be an okay move on it's own.

Ross numbers since February 21 (ten games):
22.2 PPG/1.6 APG/4.2 RPG/1.0 SPG
3PT: 44/87 = 50.5% FG: 75/154 = 48.7%
It's a shame I can't monitor his progression to see if he would have sustained it.

🤷🏻♂️ I'm not really worried about the picks. It would have been ideal to keep them, or at least one 1st, but it was necessary to help my team move in the right direction with the goal of retaining Kemba and Giannis.
Mike Conley and Kevin Love were the only other assets I had, with no bench whatsoever.

lol this trade puts Houston within a $300k of the Hard Cap, but it's legal! Trade passed.
