Trade accepted by the Spurs. This is the first time as GM where I've traded a FA that I've signed, but it's one where I admit I misfired. I had visions of Curry spacing the floor and helping balance things out offensively, but what I failed to consider is the sims sometimes don't play out the way they do in real life, and Curry's impact just hasn't been there. I have also been on a recent slide and now sit 9th in the West; while I'd love to make the playoffs, I also have to think big picture that my core is just 21 years old between Doncic, SGA, and Hachimura, and if I can add pieces that fit timeline and roster, then I have to weigh that.
With that out in the open, this deal came together fairly quickly between Amare Stoudemire and myself, as I'm willing to take on Lamb as the ballast here to land Okogie, a guy who was on my big board when I picked SGA in the 2018 draft at #12 and someone who I'm pretty high on. He fits the timeline of my other core three young guys perfectly, as all are 21 and signed for at least four years. I view Okogie as my 2021 draft pick now, as with this trade I have no picks in 2021.
I understand that Lamb's medical prognosis after his injury is not great -- it sadly reads a bit like the Livingston injury where he suffered not just muscle damage, but cartilage and bone damage as well -- but his cap hit is small and for just this season and next. Okogie should be able to step into Curry's minutes as the backup SG off the bench, and now Harkless should see more PT as well with Lamb joining Mozgov on IR.
Amare Stoudemire to provide his rationale.
