Miami offer of: 79 Marc Gasol $31,879,478 (2019-20) Total Miami outgoing percentage: 84% Total Miami incoming percentage: 117% FOR Dwayne Wade dead money contract $38,000,000 (2019-20) Total San Antonio outgoing percentage: 117% Total San Antonio incoming percentage: 84% Accepted by the Spurs. Gasol isn’t the young center I’ve been looking for, but he’s quality depth in my frontcourt as we continue to march towards the playoffs and a hedge against a Plumlee and/or Wagner injury again. Plus it doesn’t cost me anything long term to do this, as both are expiring deals. Shaquille O'Neal to provide rationale on his end. Ian Noble, I will cut Andrew Nicholson (this is compliant with the James Kay rule on signing and cutting guys intra-season) contingent on trade passage

Miami, you can't even get a bad 2nd for these trades? You're out here wrecking the market value on these kinds of trades 😕

Same thing as the Rivers trade. This shouldn't be allowed. If you don't want Rivers and Gasol you should be forced to cut them and let them go to the market, not just pick and chose which GMs/teams you want to help out for free.

Kinda free with Josh on this one the more I think on it, either that or whoever gives a 2nd

I mean when it’s presented as “Gasol for free” as the opening salvo, I’m not going to negotiate against that. I can understand the optics, but when presented with such a deal it’s not one to turn down. I even countered with Nicholson and dead money expirings that was countered with a specific ask for the Wade contract, so I didn’t push further.

Yes, as well know retired D-Wade is still a better player than active Andrew Nicholson.

Well aware of the ethics piece, but in the interest of transparency I don’t want the optics of there being any kind of quid pro quo to this deal, and that these are the facts

I think Miami is being a bit reckless with all these trades. I think getting rid of Sabonis was a bad move and not enough attention was given to that. If he wants to gamble though, I guess that's on him. Most teams fail in free agency though...
As for this, I'm kind of on Josh's side, but since Gasol is an expiring player I don't think it's too ridiculous or unfair of a move as far as the league is concerned.
Accept.

I understand you bro. Yea I am bitter, it’s ridiculous. Charlotte is over the hard cap and is getting a player who is gonna be their 6th highest rated player for absolutely nothing. It’s completely against the competitive nature of D5. Why do some of us even try to build good teams if we allow trades like this to go through? I’m trying not to blow this out of proportion but it’s legitimately ridiculous if we allow this to pass. You can’t just give away players to whomever you want when there’s 29 other GMs trying to build competitive teams without getting free players.

I also think he should likely get a 2nd rounder, but you could make some sort of (at least quasi-) reasonable explanation for this.
- Doesn't want to pay Marc Gasol 30+Million to be a backup to Steven Adams - Doesn't want to start two big men anymore - Wants to send Marc to a competitive team once he's decided he's moving on
Etc
I think it's not egregious enough, kind of like Alex, so I'll accept also.

Getting a top 5 pick for sabonis while getting rid of Kanters 35m contract is a bad move now?

These types of trades should be discouraged in my opinion. I doubt these trades were done with any type of collusion in mind, but by allowing trades like this to happen we are paving the way for the possibility in the future. I think these types of trades undermine the competitive nature of the league. Since the players involved in these trades are expiring after the season they should be released and become free agents and then give any team with money the opportunity to bid on them since Miami isn’t really receiving anything in return for them. Releasing the player still gives Miami an expiring contract and makes them immediately worse to help their pursuit of losing as much as possible but keeps everything competitive and on the up and up. Just my 2 cents.

Getting a top 5 pick for sabonis while getting rid of Kanters 35m contract is a bad move now? Is it even going to be a top 5 pick? Detroit now has Sabonis, and Ayton is about to get a rating increase. They're only 4 games out of the 8th pick with 50+ games left to play. Even if it is a top pick, players bust all the time. Plus he gets a future pick from you out of the deal. That trade is a huge win for Detroit in the long run imo.

Yeah this is the closest thing to "collusion" we've ever had, but I think we know it's not. I'm more distressed by the lack of care for team assets in the Miami firesale here - I'd definitely have given up a 2nd rounder for Gasol.

What I posted in the second message is how this happened, so there was no collusion despite the appearance. However, I’m fine with the Committee or Ian Noble invalidating this trade to force Miami to more actively shop Gasol and for League integrity. I had been doing due diligence on several other centers these last few weeks anyway, but when offered something that was a no brainer, I wasn’t turning it down.

This should not be invalidated because there is no rule against it. A rule could be created against this action in the future if that is the take of the majority. Thanks.
P.S. James and George are cheating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHEATERS!!!!

I'm more distressed by the lack of care for team assets in the Miami firesale here - I'd definitely have given up a 2nd rounder for Gasol. if you will look at the roster, no one has the capacity to trade expirings (which is the only thing i want) and 2nd rounder for Marc Gasol. all the contracts will be under 125% rule. I offered Marc Gasol for 2nd rounders, ask George Gervin, Brian Scalabrine and James Kay. all of them Declined.
