I'm fine with this signing. It's basically as close to the real life deal as possible.

We definitely wanted to resign the guy who has been our starting center since the inception of this league. However, I was honest with the player agent in saying that we were about to go into rebuild mode (due to the hard cap) and would be seriously considering trading DeAndre this season. I just didn't want to mislead anyone or have anyone come back and say I wasn't true to my word from a free agent perspective.
I truly would have loved to bring Jordan back and try to find a situation that returns value to my team and put him in a position to win. Losing him outright after all of these years together is tough but I will not throw a fit like seems to happen every year here when someone doesn't get their way.
For those of you asking..he opted out of a deal with 3 years remaining at about $82 million (approx) to sign a deal for only 2 years guaranteed at $38 million and only $55 million if the team option is used. That means he left somewhere between $27 million - $44 million on the table during this off season. Tough move for him financially and it looks like both DeAndre and the Clippers both lose here.

I really don't understand what the big deal is here. Jordan decided to opt out of his contract and he got burned by it. It happens. The Lakers offered guaranteed money and a chance to actually start and build a team around him. None of the other teams did that or offered decent money. The Clippers are in a rebuild, the Pacers offered the full MLE, and the Grizzlies offered him a backup position. It's also not like other teams didn't have a chance to offer him a max contract either. Free agency has been going on for 18 days now.
Opting out and getting paid less money sucks. But that's the risk you take when you do opt out. I don't understand any of this outrage. Also, speculating that I'm going to trade him is also crazy and completely unfair to me. I never brought it up or considered it.

I think it's worth taking a moment to recognise the restraint Mike Krzyzewski is showing here. This is such an admirable post from a veteran GM who has shown 7 real-life years of nothing but dedication to DeAndre Jordan. Mike Krzyzewski we don't deserve you mate! I saw this signing whilst I was in an all-day meeting at work so I couldn't give it the attention it deserved. The reason for my wanting to rescind this signing was that the last offer I saw from the Clippers was 5yr/$135m (roughly $27m/yr)! At that rate it would be unthinkable for DeAndre to then leave for a vastly smaller contract like this one after all those years of loyalty from Mike Krzyzewski. What I didn't realize was that the Clippers initial offer was later revised due to hard cap constraints in line with what Mike Krzyzewski posted above, and although this decision should have gone to the usual committee decision, it's not as extreme a situation as I thought it was earlier. My apologies for my misunderstanding Mike Krzyzewski, Hanamichi Sakuragi, Mark Price.

Hold on? Clippers offered him 100 million dollars and he turned it down?
IDGAF if I'm being traded I take that compared to the money other teams had to be offering. He's almost 30 for crying out loud.
