Charlotte offer of:
Horford
FOR
Ibaka 2018 ATL 2nd rounder (38th overall)
ACCEPTED by the Spurs. Strategy wise, there are three important numbers in this deal for me: 32, 64, and 5. Al Horford at 32 with the direction I’m trying to take my team doesn’t fit; he is still a really good player (as his IRL run with Boston showed) and he shouldn’t be wasted on a rebuilding team. He will be a strong 3rd or 4th option now for Charlotte as opposed to an overmatched 1st on my team.
$64 MM is the amount of cap savings I will realize from this trade when you break down the contract difference both length and dollar wise between Horford and Ibaka, which for me is something I can’t refuse as a rebuilding team.
Lastly, 5 is now he number of picks I have in the draft between 1st and 2nd round picks. At 38 I think there will be quality role player talent given this deep pool of players, and as a rebuilding team I need as many darts for the draft dart board as possible (a la Sam Hinkie approach with Philly)

Accept.
This is tough, Ibaka was my very first big signing, and one of my favorite players. He was an integral part of the rebuilding process and our championship. He’ll always be a Hornet.
With how well Horford played this year, and even better in this year’s playoffs, I had to take the opportunity to improve my roster and try to be even more competitive next year. His versatility at the 4 or 5 also gives me lineup options. His contract will be a large pill to swallow, but I will be above the cap anyway, and with giving new contracts to Middleton, Noel, Snell, and eventually Paul George, I’ll likely be above the hard cap even without this trade. So I may as well get the most bang for my buck.
Good trading with you SA, good luck and treat Ibaka well.

Ah yes— that thing called math I forgot to check closely on. Do you mind taking down the post and it’s back to the drawing board then to see if there’s a deal that works

Can charlotte trade current salaries? I thought since they were a playoff team the deadline had passed

Can charlotte trade current salaries? I thought since they were a playoff team the deadline had passed Salaries included in the trade are starting from next season, so I'm assuming this is meant to be queued till salaries roll over. If that's the case, accept. Perfectly fine trade considering the direction of the teams involved.

Can charlotte trade current salaries? I thought since they were a playoff team the deadline had passed As of today's game there aren't any playoff teams, so all can trade. The only players that can't be traded are those with expiring contracts.

Accept from me, can easily justify from both sides. James may be taking the bigger risk with that contract but he understands what is going on there with hard cap and such.
Good deal guys
