hmm with lots of prospects im interested in, this is going to be a hard decision and seeing as how i've already been barred from the commissioner from signing any free agents this off season for neglecting my team, im going to take my time to make sure i make the right decision for my franchise. with all the deliberation and trade talks im going to engage in, you can expect my pick to be posted around 1555 on 7/5.

Oh look, one of the least active GMs in D5 is going to continue being inactive, but this time on purpose! It's understandable that you're annoyed by Ian's decision, but you were so inactive that you missed all the necessary actions that lead up to free agency. So what would you do try and get disinterested GMs to be more interested? D5 is only as good as it's community, which means we need active members who want to participate. You don't seem to want to participate. People have been booted before for inactivity, which I'm not sure many people like the idea of it, but it's helped in the long run imo. The most recent obvious example being mystery man Dan Majerle being replaced with Jared Montini who's a hundred times more active, he's clearly been a good addition to D5. This is a silly little internet forum where we can all play make believe as an NBA general manager, it's hardly a high stakes operation, but I still don't think it's too much to ask that people actually show some interest in what's going on here. So how do we get you interested Spike?

Pace yourself though, we don't want you to burn yourself out. Going from hardly ever paying attention to 48 hours straight might be hard. I'm glad to see we have another committed member of D5 though. Good luck buddy!

It's honestly kind of insulting for you to suggest that I am uninterested given that I've been here for 3 years and have taken my team a long way from where it was. And now that my team is finally good enough to sign free agents, he's going to punish my lack of interest by keeping me from signing anyone? Yeah, that's not punishment, that's surely not a way to promote interest and more underhandedly asking me to quit. Look, I'm in anesthesiology residency working 70-80 hrs a week but despite that, i make it a point to be as involved by checking in multiple times a day and responding to PMs as fast as i can. I might not post a lot, but I definitely read a lot of what you guys say. Sure, maybe I HAVE grown some disdain for the league and some of the GMs when my best friend, who got me to join this league in the first place, quit last year because he thought this league was rigged. But I am not uninterested. I've been committed to turning around this franchise since I joined and the fact that you guys think that im some ass hole who doesnt care hurts my feelings.

Alright, good points made all around. I completely see where you're coming from. I saw the draft moving at a good pace, and my pick is nearly within sight after almost two weeks to get to this point, and I saw your post as basically an announcement that nothing will happen for two days because, fuck it. It made no sense to me and I was annoyed. I apologize for the sarcastic comments I made to you.

I don't want to ruin the Knicks but there needs to be repercussions: the TOs can stay but New York loses Bird Rights on Robert Covington and will also be barred from signing any FAs rated 80+ this off season. Any chance that the latter sanction can be rescinded? That might have long lasting effects for the franchise. I understand the need to lay down the law but I think the loss of Covington’s BRs is enough still stand by this

Gotta be honest I've never had to wait long to get a reply on trade offers from Spike Lee. Just because he hasn't made a bunch of stupid moves over the year doesn't mean he hasn't paid attention. I've always had issue with the way things are announced in general so next time there is an announcement I'm going to tag everyone in a reply to it.

For the record, I am not posting my selection in protest of the ruling by the commissioner and to promote discussion among the community over this topic.

If you want discussion over this topic, then here it is.
We've had since May 21st to pick up TOs and declare BRs. That's like 40 days. And there's about 60 threads of GMs picking up options. And Ian made multiple announcements. And there's 38 responses in the bird rights thread. That's literally 100 posts that Spike Lee has missed. If you somehow fail to see ONE HUNDRED different posts in the league, then maybe you shouldn't be a GM.
29 other teams managed to pick up their TOs. Only 1 GM somehow missed the boat. I don't want to hear any sob stories about how the punishment is unfair. IMO its even a light punishment. No 80+ free agents would sign with the Knicks anyway.
If I were commissioner, I would have either
(1) Fired Spike Lee and picked up the TOs for the next GM
or (2) Let Spike Lee stay on as GM but those players become free agents

To be fair the only reason Spike didn't pick up his rights and options but Blake did is because I noticed Blake's screwup and posted about it. If we wanna talk about inactive.

But I am not uninterested. I've been committed to turning around this franchise since I joined and the fact that you guys think that im some ass hole who doesnt care hurts my feelings. I just went back and reread this after reading Van Exel's response. I gotta say man, your inactivity is not anywhere close to other GM's previous inactivity particularly because I'm probably the only GM who's actively and publicly called for other GMs to be fired over inactivity. That said, I think your reason for missing out on it is actually admirable, I also haven't made an offer on Covington personally because I think if you want him back you should get him back same as if he was regular bird rights (not sure if thats best cause hes 27 but you do you) I do take issue with the accusation of it being rigged in the same way I took issue with the issue that BK posed. Billy was a kickass, super active GM who made 1 too many moves that cancelled out a few of his really respectable moves that he made, I also don't think if he wanted to be back in the league if he wouldn't go right to the top of the list because he was good. I don't think there is anyone on the trade committee or ratings committee who could say they are more on the "IN" than me. If this shit was rigged Giannis comes to me easy, Chuck quits, and I also wouldn't be in the position to even try and sign him because I woulda got my targets each year. As you can see, the one guy I got was Alexis Ajinca who I had to outbid someone for if you can believe that and later had to spend 2 2nds to get rid of. I like you here in D5 Spike, I don't want you to leave but if you have questions of fairness I strongly encourage you to reconsider.

I’m a bit confused regarding the time slots, but if I am on the clock the Utah Jazz select ———
Edit: I probably picked early, yikes

I’m a bit confused regarding the time slots, but if I am on the clock the Utah Jazz select Arnoldas Kubolka, the 20-year-old forward from Brose Bramberg. Blake Bowman OTC??? I don't think you're actually on the clock for another 1 hour and 40 minutes. I assume the time slots are based on the time zone in England.
