Claim Bird RightsAny team wishing to re-sign their player/s using their Bird Rights this off season must reply here in this thread before Off Season Free Agency begins on July 1st, 2018. Bird Rights must be claimed by GMs because a cap hold will be applied to your player/s salary until the player is signed.

Why do we have to claim Bird Rights? Shouldn't that be automatic?

Why do we have to claim Bird Rights? Shouldn't that be automatic? A bird rights claim involves a cap hold as well. If you know you don't want the player, why take up the cap hold? So, claim them if you are willing to have the cap hold.

Just a defense against being dumb. I don't really have anyone to declare bird rights on correct? I just had my few team options?

The Houston Rockets claim the Bird Rights of Giannis Antetokokounmpo Won't matter I know this is everyone's favorite game for the last two seasons, but yea, it will. That's still an extra year of certainty (probably as a Player Option anyway) with an extra 30 million dollars guaranteed. That matters.

Clippers could like to declare Bird Rights for Nic Batum. Your salaries going into the next salary year sit at $190,553,548 I'm just posting it here because it might be the highest ever in comparison to the cap and therefore worth recording Also - but I think you know this already - even with BRs you can't re-sign Batum right now, you'll need to trade away other players.

Currently Batum's cap-hold takes you well above the projected Hard Cap.
