Current Rating: 79 Suggested Rating: 81
12.0 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.0 apg, 0.4 spg, 0.8 bpg, 1.4 tov 56.7% FG, 47.6% 3p
I don't think Valanciunas is amazing or anything, but he has extended his range this year (48% three point shooting on 0.8 attempts per game), and he seems to have in general improved his defense. 79 Feels a little too low.

I like him. He's a little bit of an odd story, always seems to have pretty good per minute numbers, but wasn't earning big minutes. Definitely improved this year and could use some points to represent that.

Kinda bleh. 79, can't think of a single thing he does better than any other generic good not great center. I'd tie break to bring him up to an 80 for his FT improvement.

81.
He's having the best year of his career. He's gotten more mobile to be able to defend out to the perimeter a little better and be able to handle the Raptors switching defense. He's also adding range with a surprisingly decent three point shot.
He could be played 36 minutes a night and put up an easy 18 and 12, be a borderline All-Star, and become a household name in the NBA. Sometimes I understand Dwane Casey's strategy with JV's minutes given that he can't handle the quicker more dynamic pace of the modern NBA, sometimes I'm frustrated and can't understand why Casey doesn't use JV more to bully smaller lineups. There's only a dozen or so guys in the league that can consistently defend him in the post.
I guess if it ain't broke, then don't fix it, and the Raptors are killing it, but JV's playing time doesn't do him justice. He could easily earn a mid 80s rating if given the chance.

Ps. He's really not much better than he was. We knew what we had. Just couldn't give up what was needed to re-sign the big guy. He is a very decent big who can spread the floor. He shoots the 3 well and rebounds and defends.

I'd vote him an 80 if the raptors actually played him 32+ a night but they don't.
