Mavericks Receive:
Trevor Booker (70) - $1,294,920/$1,385,280/$2,350,820/$3,420,443
Wizards Receive:
Brandan Wright (72) - $885,120/$915,852 Josh Powell(Contract) - $490,180
Mavs Accept. I'd love to claim that Booker is going to break out and all, but I'm after the rookie contract here so that if ever Wright happens to break out, I won't have to overpay.
Anyway, long story short - similar player, similar situation - friendlier contract. That's why I want to do this.
And business side, Not sure if contracts are still tradeable or count as expirings, but if not, we've also agreed that if possible, I resign Josh Powell to a two year deal under the minimum with the following details:
Josh Powell - $490,180/$544,099

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure you can't just sign someone to an extension until the off season, or maybe Washington needs to sign Powell before he can trade him to the Mavericks. Anyways Powell can't be traded since he's expiring and that deadline has passed, so I guess just wait and see how the extension thing works from Ian.

He's actually just a contract right now that I released earlier. By re-sign, I literally mean - sign again.

Need Ratings. Booker should have a Team Option too.

I accept simply because I think, overall Wright is a better player than Booker

This is a perfect example of why the "not being able to trade expiring contracts rule" is dumb! Powell should be an easy throw in to make this trade work, but nooooooo. However, I do admire Dallas' audacity in regards to trying to get around the rule.

Oh hang on, let me review the concept of trading expiring cut players contracts first.

I personally would like a hard trade deadline where no more trades occur after March 1 (or another date), period. But maybe we can place an amendment where expirings of less than a million dollars in value can still be traded?

The problem with a hard deadline is trading is a huge portion of the activity in a sim league. Having the last month or more of the season plus the entire playoffs with no trade negotiations would mean everybody would be logging in just to see results. I like the way it's set up with the deadline being contingent on being in the playoff hunt. As for the trade I think trading expiring contracts only should still be allowed.

I'm in the boat that there shouldn't be any deadlines for trades, unless in the playoff hunt. If you are a playoff team, you can't trade until after the playoffs. If you are out of the playoffs, you can negotiate all year long into the offseason and beyond. Denver hit it right on the head, the majority of activity in sim leagues comes from negotiations on trades. It's what makes these types of leagues interesting and fun, otherwise people get stale of just watching results and activity drops.

So would that mean that the original deal is legal without having to re-sign Powell or any filler?

Yep, and I accept the deal.
