What are the odds that the government comes crashing in over a 50 dollar reward? That's not even a taxable amount for gambling winnings/fantasy sports winnings. Just send the winnings as a gift over paypal and be done with it. I don't see how its any different than youtube or facebook businesses people doing giveaways of cash prizes, items, worth way more than 50 bucks. I think that there are only state laws that affect this, like I know in some states you can't profit from a raffle or something it has to be donated to a cause. But Ian's not really profiting from the league given how many hours are put into it, that and he's not in the states anyways. Personally I think the 50 dollar reward would be awesome, if we're that worried we could just make it an Amazon Gift Card or something like that and mail it to the person who wins. I was just bring it up for awareness purposes, that's all. Youtube giving away 50 dollar gift cards is their choice, they can't deduct it on their taxes. However, if Jeremiah Hill receives the 50 dollar gift card, he is technically supposed to claim it as income. Also, it doesn't matter if Ian works 4,000 hours a year and makes $50 dollars off of a website - it's still taxable income and you can't offset it with labor hours from a hobby. Again, this is all speaking in nominal amounts that no one will report, but it is the law. Honestly not sure about laws in the UK but, in the US, Ian wouldn't have to pay taxes on any gifts. Gifts aren't taxable income. Of course, membership fees might be another story.

I think I donated some money sitting in my paypals account one time; I believe I sold some books back from a class that I hated and gave the money to Ian.

You're the only other person to ever do it. That money bought a copy of Live 06 that went to Walt Frazier and now we have the Ratings Committee

I do not think donating and/or a fee is such a bad idea, but are we ever going to restart the league? While I do not mind having one of the worst teams in the league, I would imagine that new GMs are less likely to join a league where they have no chance to win a title unless someone like Mullin or English retired one day.

I don't think that's true, there's always trade opportunities. Your team is one of the most extreme exceptions to that rule though, honestly Detroit are in such a bad state I feel for you man. Only time will heal those wounds.

I don't think it is as bad you are saying, but only a few teams, Chicago, Milwaukee, Denver, and maybe Charlotte, Toronto, Portland or Minnesota, have a chance to beat Golden State. That is 8 out of 30 teams competing for a title.

I see your point, but it also helps my point because the "distribution of talent" is so uneven. I mean, Patty Mills, a Golden State reserve, could arguably be my best player!

Fuck that. The great thing about D5 is we can play the long con like real life. The shittiest part of sim leagues is when they fold.

Without going too in depth, I think paying a small fee would be great. Pay Ian for his hard work and ensure participation at the same time. It would feel that much more legit to be on here.

Howard will be rejuvenated this season. We will see, but I wouldn't be talking shit if I were you as I may be the worst team next year and you are the worst team in 2019.
