As GM of SA we accept. We have brought in Reggie Jackson and Isaiah Thomas to run our backcourt and we were short on the frontcourt. Here we bring in a talented NBA All Star Big man to make this a big3. We have the talent around the 3 to compete and continue to rebuild and still continue to bring in FAs in the off season. We made the team a destination to win and we bring in expirings to resign our big3 and sign a big name FA moving forward.

We do lose Waiters but this move helped us rid the contract of Nick Young as well.
You guys can pick at the PO of Millsap all you want. He will sign at least until the end of his contract. Its a large contract already and to play alongside two other All Stars is more than enough reason to stay. We are young and talented and we have a bright future.

Even if things don't change until later due to chemistry and having such a short time period left...we have the big3 moving forward to add free agents to get into the playoffs and more next season and beyond...

Spurs only get Millsap for the next three months of the regular season, but even if he opts out this off season (which he almost certainly will) the Spurs will have the inside track on signing him to a longer term deal. On balance I like it.
I accept.

What I don't understand is what Detroit actually gets back. He takes on cap for a lot of bad players and doesn't get one decent piece in return

He wants Sullinger and Waiters. Not only that he gets Black, and a scoring guard still in Young.

Millsap would be opting out anyhow. This way he's getting the two guys he wanted in Waiters and Sullinger and a young guy in black and a scorer in young. Otherwise the guys he's trading would be leaving in the off season anyhow.

I don't like this for Detroit, considering he gave up a former ROY in Tyreke for Millsap, I don't think he gets the same value back in return. Doesn't make much sense to me, but when you evaluate this trade at its base, it is fair, I guess.

Agreed with Kevin and Adam. I think this deal becomes fair (and also works with salaries) if Sefalosha is replaced with Boozer.

Why do I want more salary. No. I need my cap. I might lose every guy in the trade.

That's just plain stupid. The salaries work, he gets the guys and youth he wants.. And I get Millsap without adding much salary. You guys make no sense unless its a trade for yourselves. I know we have revamped this roster and I'm amazing but don't cheat my guys because your jealous.

I know we have revamped this roster and I'm amazing but don't cheat my guys because your jealous. Lmfao. JR I could not be less jealous of your team. Seriously. Think about when I traded for Westbrook. I gave up Reggie Jackson, Otto Porter, Robin Lopez (Each one of these players more valuable than what you are giving Detroit), IN ADDITION TO Jerryd Bayless, Kyle O’Quinn and John Henson (Around similar value to these players you are giving up) IN ADDITION TO two first round picks IN ADDITION TO four second round picks IN ADDITION TO accepting the salary of Varejao. You are getting Millsap for players that have less value than the ones I gave up, zero picks, and taking on no bad salary. In fact, it appears that you are actually the one giving up Nick Young’s contract and making off with the better salary situation. Ian Noble, I’m honestly surprised you accepted this so quickly. Detroit is not in a great position without his pick and he is trading his best player, an all-star, for ….. what?! Jared Sullinger?! Dion Waiters?!! Like I said, it would make sense if SA could take on that Boozer contract but Sefalosha is actually still a decent player too. And so is Dunleavy, I guess. It’s just not like DET is sending away Millsap with only garbage players. Oh and WOWWW Sullinger is averaging 10/8 on 44FG% and 64FT%. incredible numbers. And what is the deal with N. Young? 7 points and is barely playing? Is he injured?

i dont think this trade is rejectable at all
sullinger and waiters at their peak is worth an inside track to resigning paul millsap, especially if detroit doesnt like paul millsap.
sunk costs are sunk costs, what he traded to get millsap shouldn't factor into his decision here.

This whole 'inside track' business is a load of BS. You can't just trade "a pile of shit" as CB put it for a good player and then expect him to re-sign with you. I mean, take Russell Westbrook for example. James Kay traded a giant turd sandwich for Westbrook, yet he is going to get no sort of advantage in signing Westbrook this offseason. If anything, it probably hurts him to have Westbrook on his team, especially with the recent rumors that Westbrook has an under-the-table agreement with the Brooklyn Nets to sabotage the season for Charlotte and then sign with Brooklyn to play with Blake Griffin. I mean, think about it. Blake Griffin is an all-star player in his prime, whereas Andrew Wiggins couldn't carry a team to victory if he had the shoulders of the Greek God Atlas (pictured below). Couple that with the rumors that Kevin Durant will also be joining the Nets this offseason. Does anyone really think Durant will go back to play with the perennial team-destroyer that is DeMarcus Cousins? I'm honestly surprised OKC hasn't fired their coach yet. The fact of the matter is, absolutely zero players who are free agents will sign with a western conference team this offseason. Most free agents will flock to Brooklyn, and a few free agents will join the Nets' D-League team, the Long Island Nets.

I agree that the team that has them going in to free agency shouldn't automatically resign them. And i know this to be true as I lost everyone last season, so yeah.

You guys can talk about where who might go and how much value this guy or that guy is and how I'm giving junk or that Millsap will leave. I take that risk. If he leaves I have that much more cap for Free Agency.
The trades fair and I'm the one taking the risk. Those guys I'm giving are who DET wanted!! I really didn't want to give up Waiters or Sullinger.
If Millsap opts out and the other guys I'm getting I don't keep their options it will all be for a 3month trial. And of course he still gets better players than I will and that he wanted.
Its a fair trade. If he doesn't do the trade and Millsap leaves then what does he get or have?
