Kawhi has stepped it up big time this year. Reigning DPOY and looks like his defense only got better this year.
Copied from Alex's post re: PG-13 because theyre similar players.
PG Stats: 26.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 43.8 FG%, 42.2 3P%, 84.6 FT%, 24.0 PER, 58.1 TS%
5.3 OBPM, 0.4 DBPM, 5.7 BPM, 1.8 VORP
Kawhi Stats: 21.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 50.9 FG%, 49.0 3P%, 87.5 FT%, 27.3 PER, 61.5 TS%
5.8 OBPM, 3.5 DBPM, 9.3 BPM, 2.5 VORP
Paul George is also playing amazing this year, and they have similar games so I think its fair to compare them. I personally believe Kawhi is better, but I think it's absolutely a fair position to value PG over Kawhi. That being said, I think they should at least be rated equally. The advanced stats favor Kawhi as he is more efficient from every part of the court. PG carries more of the offensive load and is asked to create more for his team, but Kawhi has really taken on a larger load as well this year - not to mention that he is the best wing defender in the league.
------------------
Paul George has taken 84 isolation shot attempts making 33.9 eFG%.
Kawhi Leonard has taken only 16 isolation shot attempts making 43.4 eFG%.
------------------
Kawhi has taken 27 post up shot attempts making 55.1 eFG%.
Paul George has taken only 10 post up shot attempts making 30.0 eFG%.
------------------
Kawhi Leonard has taken 53 (leads the league) spot up shot attempts making 66.3 eFG%
Paul George has taken 25 spot up shot attempts making 61.4 eFG%.
------------------
Kawhi Leonard has taken 13 off-screen shot attempts making 64.0 eFG%.
Paul George has taken 28 off-screen shot attempts making 54.9 eFG%.
------------------
Current: 85
Suggested: 94

Kawhi is great, but I take Paul George. I think the biggest difference is on offense. Kawhi benefits from being in the Spurs system, and having great players around him. Paul George has to do so much on his own. 63.5% of Kawhi's field goals are assisted, including 93.9% of his threes. For George only 44.1% of his field goals are assisted, with 65% of his threes.
Still great though. I give him a 91.

92. Wow.
Not sure anyone has ever had a boost this large (if it holds up on these early votes) INTO the 90's. Not since we started doing changes more often about a year and a half ago. A couple huge ones from the 60's to the upper 70's type of thing, but into the 90's, nope.

He's off the charts amazing and I love his game, but he's not a franchise player... yet.

Really don't see how anyone could rate him below 90...
1st in 3P%
18th in FT%
17th in points per game
8th in steals per game
4th in PER
4th in TS%
8th in Steals%
5th in TO%
He's got the 4th best Offensive Rating
the 2nd best defensive rating
5th offensive win shares
2nd defensive winshares
2nd overall win shares
3rd box plus minus
4th VORP
The knock has always been his offensive game but he is scoring 20+ points with insane efficiency while improving on his DPOY campaign last year by leading the league's best defense to 92.8 def eff rating.

You posted the thread too early is the problem. 50% from 3p? clearly there is going to be regression. How much? One can only assume halfway between last years stats and what he has so far this year... which gives him a 88.

Yeah Kawhi just dominated Paul George... can't wait to watch this game.
I think when you give a player a 90+ rating for the first time it's entering the promised land. It's better to be conservative. I will give my vote as a 90.

93 from me. I think Kawhi is my new favourite player now that Derrick Rose is a shell of his former self.
It pains me to think that I would have Kawhi on my team if I hadn't of gone from rebuilding mode to contending mode 3 years ago. Then again I wouldn't have a Championship by now so it was worth the fee.

Yeah Kawhi just dominated Paul George... can't wait to watch this game. So... I don't think it's fair to just say Kawhi shut down PG. The Spurs shut down the Pacers is what happened, I think would be more accurate to say. Both players did have good games in my opinion, they're obviously both great players. But I feel like if PG were on the Spurs and Kawhi on the Pacers, we wouldn't consider Kawhi to be so dominant. A lot of the time PG would cut to the rim, beat Kawhi, but run into some fantastic help defense as well. A lot of the time PG kicked it out to a teammate and the teammate missed the opportunity too. I'll stand by my 90 for Kawhi though, he was tremendous offensively and defensively.

I am a Spurs fanatic.
Eye test, numbers, understanding of the Spurs system and etc. I am quite confident that I have enough of that if we are talking about a Spur IRL. By last season alone, I already have him at 88 and I will stand with that assessment.
94
I just want to point out that, truly, he is a product of the development system of SAS but right now, his numbers is more about his skills rather than their system. Actually, if he is playing for another team his numbers should be way more higher.

He's in the running for MVP and has a chance to accomplish a feat of 40-50-90 this season. If he's not a franchise player, I don't know anything anymore.
If I were doing a fantasy draft and had the first pick for my franchise, I pick Kawhi 100/100 times.
