My rationale for this trade: Love Mike Conley. I’ve argued for him to be rated properly for a long time. He fluctuates between that overrated/underrated status, but I firmly stand by his 86 rating. I think he’s a veteran point guard in the sense that he makes smart decisions and controls the pace of games – in addition to the scoring and playmaking load he carries on that defensive-minded team. That being said, this season I’ll sadly have to part ways with him. This upcoming off-season, I would’ve been forced to choose between Conley and Jackson, as neither would’ve accepted a back-up role. Such is the price you pay when your backup becomes a starter lol. With the new cap rules regarding bird rights players, Conley would’ve had a 14 million dollar cap hold on my salary for the free agency period. As Jackson’s cap hold is only just under 5 million, I had to choose him to preserve space for the upcoming free agency. Plus Jackson is younger, and at this point definitely has a higher ceiling. In KCP I get to add wing depth, retain his bird rights, and keep my salary low as well. Plus, those two 2nd round picks are nice to have. Not sure if I needed to provide a rationale for this trade, but whatever >washington does lateral move in horford for conley, but for some reason picks up one of the worst contracts in the league at the same time lolk And Adam, you make a good point – but I think Kareem likes Hibbert. He’s still playing somewhat mediocrely, but I don’t know how much you can judge anyone playing on the Lakers. He’s less than 2 years removed from being the best rim protector in the league and an All-Star. It’s not unreasonable that WAS wants to lock down players when he has no other real options as he doesn’t have a draft pick this year.

Washington has Horford's bird rights and a chance to re-sign him, even though he most likely wont make the playoffs this year whereas Mike Conley's just going to leave, and D'Angelo Russell's already on their lineup so there'll be a glut at point guard.
Doesn't seem to make sense for Washington. His team is a mess, which isn't his fault, but surely it makes more sense to keep Horford?

He’s clearly not going to stay on that team. Plus, Washington has their 2017 pick and should, in all honestly, tank for at least that year. I think, like Adam said, Conley for Horford is a lateral move, except I disagree with Adam and think that WAS adding Hibbert was a plus for them – locking down a player that has the potential to be really good – especially once he leaves the Lakers after this year.

Greg Monero signed with the nets when Detroit had bird rights. At least this deal he does get a chance to maybe resign Conley as well he gets a centre. This is not the same Roy Hibbert 2 years ago but he's on a shirt team in real life. His points have drop but he is still a defense presents. In this deal wash gets a roster hole filled for the next 3 years instead of wondering if he's going to keep Horford or not. He has a replacement. If anything I put myself at risk because Al could walk and I just gave up a young gaurd who I think will be a good player.

Hibbert's contract is awful and Conley is going to leave. Washington has a better chance to keep Horford than Conley.

I suppose at least Washington has Hibbert for 3 years and that contract wont look so bad as the cap continues to increase.
This trade gives Washington a one-season Mike Conley rental, or he could re-trade him and make something else happen. Washington doesn't own his pick this year, Philly does, so all he's doing is adding success this year, he loses that next year if he wants to keep tanking.
The GM game is a tricky one to get your head around some times! I think this deal isn't actually that bad for Washington with all that other stuff in mind.
Charlotte's making a strange calculated decision also.
Even Toronto has the uncertain task of re-signing Horford.
This whole trade is crazy complicated.
I accept.

>washington does lateral move in horford for conley, but for some reason picks up one of the worst contracts in the league at the same time lolk I just hope Roy Hibbert will get better in LA Lakers despite of being 29y/o already. He's worst I know. Hahahaha. About the contract I don't really care anyway because I'll start all over again from picking top 5 and hope that I pick a big one. ^^

Yes, I do have a chance but of course having $90M Salary Cap next season means I'll lost him. I love him but I'd rather lost him in a trade than lost him with nothing in FA. ^^

The contract of Roy will be around 12.7M this year when the cap goes to 90M.
WAS will not have any use for the increase in the Cap next season because nobody would want to join them with almost all of us capable of signing anybody for the next two season. So, how can it be bad to bet on Roy Hibbert who is playing for a LAL that do not have any Center for the future?
This a good move for WAS.

Someone convince me that Washington isn't just shooting himself in the foot here. Like Ian said, Conley for Horford is a lateral move, made worse by Washington already having D'Angelo Russell on board. And of course, Hibbert is a hell of an anchor as is.
I know you guys have the Monroe signing on your minds, but as opposed to Detroit did at the time - who was actually making a move to get rid of talent at the time, Washington actually has some pieces in place and just about the whole season to try and pick up some talent.
I'm not rejecting yet, but I want to know if there was any effort to try and add more talent through trade or if Washington at least even bothered to look at other options.

The trades looks much better without Charlotte. To Washington Wizards 79| Roy Hibbert - $15,452,122 - $16,452,122 - $17,452,122 74| Kentavious C Pope - $1,899,200 - $1,949,443 - $2,001,290 2018 Toronto 2nd Round Pick 2019 Toronto 2nd Round Pick To Toronto Raptors 86| Al Horford - $12,000,000 Also, this trade is not better than dynasty5ive.proboards.com/thread/5696/tor-sas

I'm not rejecting yet, but I want to know if there was any effort to try and add more talent through trade or if Washington at least even bothered to look at other options. Look at it as, WAS thinking Horford is leaving and replaces him with a long term center who is still 29 and he believes he will rebound in LA. Has the chance to resign Conley or could even trade him for more assets if he wishes. WAS does not have there pick this year, so doesn't it make sure for him to win games? As WAS said "Yes, I do have a chance but of course having $90M Salary Cap next season means I'll lost him. I love him but I'd rather lost him in a trade than lost him with nothing in FA. "He already is thinking about the future which is good. In this deal he not only retains a true center (which is hard to come by) he also gets another trade chip in Conley who will bring him some more assets. Right now WAS is lacking a SG,SF,PF,C. He has a future PG which is great! So he trades Horford for one of those positions. Therefore 2/5 spots filled. With this deal, he now fills two holes, PG and C and is now left with SG,SF,PF. He trades Conley for one of those positions and he can focus on the other two during free agency. Therefore 3/5 spots filled. Don't look at this deal as "I am getting the better player". I am getting the better player but 3 teams here are putting themselves at risk as Ian said.

Washington paying for overrated overpaid hibbert...when he has horfords rights and value. Conley is nice and expiring but he won't resign in DC. Washington making bad moves IMO.
This comes down to smart GMs and newer GMs that don't know much about rebuilding and value.
Good for Toronto.. But your def getting over and you know it...

Look at Hibberts season to date:

Indy let him leave for a reason... And now they are winning. He is not a winner. More a headcase!!

Hibbert has played approximately 6 good games in his entire career, lucky for him and his agent they were on national television against Lebron.

TC, can we get some input/votes here? Ian has already voted yes. Bryan can’t vote. That leaves Alex, Walt, and Danny.
I think TOR might be getting the better end of both me and WAS, but I don’t think this trade is bad enough to be rejectable. Whatever your personal feelings on Hibbert are, he’s two years removed from an All-Star season being the best rim protector in the league. Horford was absolutely not staying, and Washington’s cap space isn’t that important. He’s taking a flier on Hibby and making a lateral move for Conley, who he can easily flip if he wants. Besides, the contract is not THAT bad with the new cap – equivalent to signing Hibbert for 10 mill back when his contract was created. IDK. Seems like something we just have to see how it plays out.

My first reaction was something like "ugh Hibbert sucks, he kills the value of that trade for WAS."
But, listening to other arguments and thinking about it for quite a while actually, I understand it. I really really think he should get any type of draft pick, and would have felt moderately better with him getting at least one 2nd Rounder...
But, I really don't think anyone is going to mortgage too much of their future for a one year rental of Horford.
THAT being said, I know I never heard a peep from Washington about Horford. How hard did he really try to trade him? Did he just allow whatever offers came in dictate the value? Why not search around, shoot out a couple offers?
Disappointed by that part of it, but in the end, I understand the motivation.
I'll accept. Hope Washington really TRIES to get value out of Conley.

Roy Hibbert has 2.2 DBPM, 44th in the league. His 3.2 DWS last season is 32nd in the league. His 1.9 block this season is 11th in the league.
I'm just saying.
