After much deliberation and back & forth negotiations with at least 6 interesting teams, Aaron has made his decision.
Before we announce who he will be playing with next season, we wanted to explain why we chose who we did, and why we didn't chose some of the others.
Aaron's biggest concerns were:
1) Playing Time - Although willing to take on a super 6th-man role, Aaron was definitely looking for a place to prove himself as a starter again. Teams that had similarly talented players already in place, and especially if those teams already had a pretty good guard rotation, were definitely at a disadvantage.
The team Aaron chose has strong feelings towards Mr. Brooks' abilities, and has a pretty clear starting PG spot open. No other team offered as clear of a spot.
2) Money - It's part of the game, like it or not. A few teams offered big, a couple offered about half of the MLE. Those offering lower money also had only clear backup roles available, so the choices were made clearer right about here.
The team Mr. Brooks chose to play with offered a LOT of money, although we were asked by David Stern to keep a close eye on player value and try to keep contracts in check a little better going forward. That said, the offer shows how strongly the GM felt about Aaron's talents, so that did have a positive effect on negotiations.
3) Location - Not a huge factor, but Aaron is a West Coast kid - Born in Seattle and played College ball in Oregon.
The team Aaron chose is on the west coast, and is one of the closest to his home state that is left in the NBA.
4) Chemistry/team dynamic - Again, not a huge factor, but Aaron took a close look at who he would be playing with in a starting 5, and especially his fellow guards and backcourt players, and felt pretty strongly that he would fit in with a certain group of players.
All of that said, Aaron Brooks has decided to help the Sacramento Kings make some noise around the NBA for the next 2 seasons.
The following contract has been signed between Aaron Brooks and the Sacramento Kings:
Year 1: $6,000,000 Year 2: $6,000,000
Total: $12,000,000
Total Team Salaries: $53,291,528

Come on Aaron, you could have been one of the Bobcats leaders to the playoffs, we were offering more money and a 6th man role in a contendership team! When we defeat the Kings in the NBA Finals we're going to laugh at your face!

Kings actually offered a LOT more than you...As I said, David Stern asked us to keep contracts reasonable. I would have lowered your offer to 6 mil at most the first season too.
Overall, Kings' team looks more competitive than yours as well.
Good luck to you both though!

Thank you Commissioner Ian Stern, I feel like I got a bargain....just wish I could have gotten him for 3 years instead of 2

Just a doubt... The fact that Kings offered 30 millions, but it got down to 16 (same price as mine original offer). So, if i offer like 20 millions for a 10 million player and it goes down to 10 million, my offer has more value than the 10 million offer that some other team may have made to him?
Another thing, the Bobcats (in real life) signed DeSagana Diop for a 7M deal, the Warriors signed Kwame Brown for a 6M deal, don't you think that in real life there were offers a lot worse than 30M for Aaron Broks?
I'm not pissed off that i couldn't get Aaron Brooks, but Frazier said 'the offer shows how strongly the GM felt about Aaron's talents, so that did have a positive effect on negotiations.'
So, for example, if there's a biding war on someone like Nenad Krstic, there's 2M 1 year offer, 3M 1 year offer, then i offer 8M in 2 years, then it goes down to 3M 1 year, my 3M 1 year has more value than the other team 3M 1 year?

I can't really answer this inquiry for the T-wolves, but I will say I would have offered all my cap for Aaron Brooks because I believe in him that much. There is no rule that says I could not offer him as much money as I did, and I acted in good faith during the process.

I believe in you, you've always said that Brooks was one of your main objectives, but i mean, don't you think that is unfair that Brooks signed with you for the same amount that i offered him and your money is worth than mine? I think that maybe a 8M/year would be more fair than the same amount than my offer I agree with you that is a bargain and that one thing is to avoid GMs from offering ridiculous long-term contracts to average players and another is offer big money to Brooks who is decent for 2-3 years. At the end of the day, Brooks getting $18-20 M / 2 years is not going to break the Kings. In fact, it is a deal that could reasonably happen if he decided to come back in real life. In fact, someone will end up paying more money

Lucas, part of my job is to basically decide what a player's max contract is going to be before I even look at the numbers offered from other teams. So, while your "10 million" isn't worth less than someone else's "10 million", I do have to consider a LOT of offers and a LOT of different factors. The fact that the Kings offered more wasn't really a big deal, but the sincerity and passion he showed towards Aaron's talents and ability to come into his team was very clear, and was something my client really enjoyed, and made him swing in that direction right away.
Again, part of my job would be to not let crazy deals like Diop and Kwame happen anymore...Yes those are probably worse than 30 mil over 3 years for Brooks, but again, the overall job I have requires me to just bring spending in check.
As I said, just a "positive affect" on negotiations. Not "it was the main reason we signed there".
Not really anything significant. It does let me know what the GM's view a players' value at, at least partially...
If your neighbor on the left offered you $20 to mow their lawn, but your neighbor on the right offered you $150...same size yard...you'd probably do the $150 right? Makes you feel better about doing the same amount of work. Makes you feel more valued.
Now say "uncle Sam" (or the Government) has put a limit on how much people can make mowing a 1/2 acre yard at $20, but your neighbor on the right didn't know that, and you had to let them know you could only take $20. You still would feel more valued by them, than your other neighbor, right?
It simply had a positive affect, it wasn't a big deciding factor.

I'll also clarify, again, that the BIGGEST FACTOR, and really the MAIN FACTOR that separated him from you, was Playing Time.
You BOTH separated from everyone else on the money thing. One other team was close to there, but they couldn't offer any more than 5 Million, and their available PT was as a 6th man as well.
Money narrowed it down to Bobcats and Kings as my primary options...with a couple other teams close. When I then factored in Playing Time, it was pretty easy to choose the Kings.
Kings further separated from you with Location & chemistry factors.
I'd say the decision between Kings and Bobcats was about...
97% Playing Time 2% location 1% Chemistry
Again, you were both equal on the money thing.

Kings really, really wanted Brooks, but i'm afraid that some team may try to do this tactic to sign players for more than they're worth of just to be ahead in the deal.

Well, it won't really work with me. I may have mis-worded something at some point that made you think him offering all that money really swayed me...it wasn't about that as much as it was the conviction he showed in Aaron's abilities. The money also showed that conviction, so in that way, it helped some, but it was more about PT and his belief in Mr. Brooks' abilities.

I'd also like to tell you that propaganda is a POWERFUL thing in these sim leagues. I think I was 15 when I started doing these, and I am now 22. If you notice, I made sure everyone knew I wanted Brooks and was very complimentary to him in my little write up when I offered him the contract. I guess what I am trying to say is, perception is reality....in the future if you want a FA then let everyone know that you want them. It also helps when you can offer him a starting job

In this case anyway. The "propaganda" machine that is Charles Boen didn't hurt I guess, but even without any of that, the decision for me would have been the Kings. Most PT he could get plus the max money he could get...nearest to his home state/college...just ended up all pointing in one direction.

It also ended up saving me face right now since I told everyone and their mothers I wanted Aaron Brooks. I really do think CHA has a point, but that is sort of a dilemma when you cap contracts. Now I am not blaming you, MIN, in anyway, shape, or form and I understand why the commish wants to cap contracts, but there are negatives to it.

I agree with you T-Wolves, i believe that Kings is the best place to Brooks to go, the guy really likes Brooks and it is perfect for him.
My main complain is that i think that 12M/2 years is too low for Brooks. I mean, Brooks is going to be a good player in the next 2 years and he has a good trade value, i do believe that he's worth a 16M/2-yrs at least. I mean, Jordan signed Diop for a 14M/2-yr IRL hahahaha
