…somewhere in Athens, a cell phone rings. A man picks up his phone to hear unexpected news…
Player Agent: “Shabazz!! How’s Greece? Weather must be nice over there, no?”
Bazz Napier: “Hellloooo George! Can we make this quick — we just had a huge win in the Euroleague and my Olympiacos teammates are all about to hit the Athens night clubs..”
Player Agent: “That sounds like fun! Enjoy that, because I got you a deal BACK into the NBA. And even better news — it’s on a good one!”
Napier: (long pause, staring at the phone in his hand now)
PA: “You there Bazz?”
Napier: “You’re not joking are you? I haven’t been in the League since pre-Rona”
PA: “No lies here — one year deal (vet min of course), but it is for playoff contending Jared Montini’s Utah Jazz. They’re really thrilled to add you”
Napier: (now looking around at the ladies and taking in the Greek sea breeze) “Utah….well, it isn’t Greece, but it is a foot back in the door. I’ll be on a flight tomorrow back, but first, I’m gonna celebrate”
Some more D5 PA fiction — Bazz is being dusted off the FA pile to join the Jazz on a one year deal worth the vet minimum.
