Damian Lillard is going to be staying in Chicago. We received Full Max (4-year) Offers with Full Raises from New Orleans, Toronto, Miami, and Charlotte, and the same thing but with a 5th year, from Chicago. That 5th year ultimately made the difference here. Damian has shown himself to be very, very interested in getting as much money as possible. He just signed that $112M extension this offseason after he signed the 4 year, $196M offer last offseason. So, the committee felt strongly that he likes to get as much money as possible. Additionally, he has some recent injury history, and is into his 30's, and is a smaller guard. While CP3 might be giving a template on how to exist as a small guard, he could also be the exception. We felt that 5th year at max money was pretty important for both reasons (more money & injury woes). There was also some discussion given to Dame being one of the most loyal stars we've seen IRL in a very long time. While that didn't necessarily swing things, I know there has been some "loyalty is BS" type conversations lately. Clearly, most stars IRL don't give a shit. But, Dame does appear to be an exception to that rule. So, while he hasn't spent his entire career with the Bulls, he has been there for 4 years already, which has become an exceptionally long time in the D5-verse. We want to thank all of the GMs who came hard after Dame, but he is excited to secure the bag and stay in Chicago as the star of this franchise. TOTAL: $248,854,690
Year 1: $43,279,250 Year 2: $46,525,194 Year 3: $49,771,138 Year 4: $53,017,082 Year 5: $56,263,026 (PO) Congratulations to Shane Battier and the city of Chicago!
