Bam Adebayo - Memphis GrizzliesBam Adebayo has agreed to re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies on a 5 year max contract: Year 1: $30,913,750 Year 2: $33,232,281 Year 3: $35,550,813 Year 4: $37,869,344 Year 5: $40,187,875 (Player Option) Bam received 8 max contract offers, and the decision went to a committee. The primary argument for leaving Memphis by Bam's suitors revolved around his fit with Gobert, which was discussed in detail by the committee. However, the committee leaned some on precedent set last year when a bird rights Domantas Sabonis re-signed to a Pistons team that included DeAndre Ayton, which was agreed to be an even worse fit than Bam and Gobert. It was also agreed that the Grizzlies were likely the best / most competitive team that were offering for Bam. Ultimately, the committee was in unison in agreeing that the fit concerns with Gobert were not enough to overcome the advantage of the bird rights 5th year and being on a championship contending team. I did not message everyone individually with this update, but please rest assured that we took all teams into account! Thank you everyone who sent in offers, there were truly some very convincing and well-thought out arguments by the team's attempting to pry Bam from Memphis.

With this type of thought process, the team positional fit is almost 95% out of the window as a negative value for the re-signing team. Re-signing team already have the money advantage and then some. Now they have another one.
If we take out team fit and without a clear stand about the application of team loyalty, what is the remaining clear path for a player to leave his current team that can offer BR?
A disastrous offer and negotiating?

I think as we saw last year with Dejounte Murray, we are trending towards a league where the only way a BRs rookie contract player leaves his team is if the re-signing team fails to match the contract value. So basically, we have de-facto RFA.

At the very least, we have your comment implying that when we look back from the future.
