Based on the following quote, we've got some work to do on PF ratings, since overall rating is all most of you guys care about, let's take a look.
...his overall rating should (not) increase above 90, even though he's the best power forward.
Alright, best PF in our game should be rated a 90, maybe, so...just think we should take a look at our PF's. Stats are last 2 full years, mostly, some credence given to this year, but not much, as it's still very few games compared to the last 2 full seasons. Plus guys like Dirk, Pau, and Love have had injuries this year so a lot of their stats are way out of whack.
Kevin Love - 89-90 is the bar we've set for best PF in the game.
22-23 point, 14 rebounds, 46% from the field, 39-40% from 3, 84% FT, 2.2 assists, .8 steals, .5 blocks
Pau Gasol - 89
18 point, 10 rebound, 51% from the field, 27% from 3, 80% FT, 3.8 assists, .6 steals, 1.4 blocks
Dirk Nowitzki - 90
22 points, 7 rebounds, 47-48% from the field, 37-38% from 3, 89% FT, 2.3 assists, .6 steals, .5 blocks
Chris Bosh - 88
18 points, 7.5-8 rebounds, 50% from the field, barely shoots the 3 (25%?), 82% FT, 1.8 assists, .8 steals, .9 blocks
David Lee - 82
18 points, 10 rebounds, 50% from the field, doesn't shoot the 3, 79% FT, 3 assists, .9 steals, .4 blocks
Al Jefferson - 84
19 points, 9.7 rebounds, 49% from the field, doesn't shoot the 3, 77% FT, 2.1 assists, .8 steals, 1.7 blocks
Blake Griffin - 88
21 points, 11 rebounds, 52% from the field, barely shoots the 3 (20 %?), 60% FT, 3.3 assists, .9 steals, .6 blocks
As far as I can tell, if Love is the benchmark, then the ratings should be closer to this...
Dirk and Gasol are kind of similar overall. Dirk is a better shooter and pure scorer, but Pau a better rebounder, passer, and block man. Should probably both be about 87-88, since both clearly fall behind Love. Mainly, Dirk needs a little dip back to about 88 instead of 90.
Bosh and Lee are very similar overall. Lee a better rebounder, Bosh slightly better FT, but lee better assists...and then bosh a little advantage in blocks. Overall, that favors Lee, BUT, Bosh has a pedigree of being on his own and performing better. I basically don't have a problem with Bosh's rating, but Love should get some boost here. Maybe like 85-86?
AlJeff deserves a boost, probably to 86-87. He hangs with all of the non-3pt guys here in every category, except not the passer some of them are. However, he's the best inside defensive guy, as the blocks show.
Blake should not be an 88. I don't see how he comes out only 2 points behind Love. scoring and rebounding - not as good as Love. Better FG% but that's mostly dunks and close stuff, Love clearly a much better shooter. No 3's for Blake (again, limited range). HORRIBLE FT%, really kills the team there. Steals and Blocks are basically the same (really a shame for Blake, doesn't use his athleticism well, not a really smart player). Blake an advantage passing, but that's about the only place he really wins. Maybe like 85-86 til he makes some big improvements.
Just some thoughts, there seems to be consensus that Love is probably, or definitely, the best PF in the game. The #'s say he's the best overall package, but the ratings look like he's barely better or only just as good as about 5 other players. Maybe we need to take a closer look at some players?
Love ... his overall should not exceed 89.
