Perhaps it was the questionable offense, or being on an incredibly deep Memphis team where there’s a lot of other talent, but Tyus has finally found a home after going unsigned the entire offseason and through 70+ games in this regular season. He will be heading to the Pacific Northwest to play for the upstart Blazers and Jerry West. He is excited to get an opportunity to contribute to the Blazers backcourt development while providing value in hopes of securing a better deal at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. Terms are below: 2021-22: $925,258 2022-23: $1,850,516

I don't see Tyus on the FA list? I definitely would have offered had I realized he was a FA Edit: Tyus Jones wasn't on the OSFA list and isn't on the Regular Season FA list. He's not on a D5 roster, so I don't dispute that he's a free agent, but how is George Gervin able to negotiate a contract for Tyus when he doesn't even legally represent him lol I feel like he needs to be assigned a PA and give everyone a fair shot at negotiating for him.

Maybe it's time that a GM gets rewarded for actually caring and showing interest on a player like we always praise about in FA? Nobody cared about him until 30 minutes ago, nobody searched for him, shit if you think he didn't exist, someone could have created him.
I went to George to negotiate because knowing Tyus was a FA, I obviously would negotiate it with the PG agent.

Sir this is silly, I see that you got an absolute steal of a deal here so I understand that you want it to hold up, but this guy doesn't even have a player agent. You can't just randomly negotiate with George for a player he doesn't represent.

Yeah, I was also surprised to see that he was available as I also wanted to look for a point guard for rest of the season, but all the other points in the FA list were trash so I let it be.
Also if since it was not announced nowhere that he has received an offer, which is standard practice, this seems really fishy/collusion signing.
I really think he should get an extended bidding.

Kinda sucks that a GM does his job and everyone suddenly cares about a player they never searched about for a year.
Next thing you know the PAs will have to message everyone asking if they want to make an offer.
I did my job and now every vulture wants to jump on it.

I definitely have looked at the FA list multiple times, and Tyus wasn’t on it. Nobody is “suddenly” showing interest, the point being, nobody should be able to swoop up players everyone else wasn’t privy to. You seriously think he’d just now be getting signed if people knew he was a FA?…

Huh, then how did I find him? You guys literally want to be spoon fed. Sorry if I putted in the work and signed a player on a "steal", who btw got his TO rejected for 3.7 million and is now getting 2.8 for pretty much just 1 season after a year with no offers.

You woke up one morning with 15 games left in D5( musta had tyus on your mind for months) and CTRL Fd his name on the roster page. The PA should have announced he was tyus agent is the issue. The PA could have done due diligence and wurst case he takes the minimum you offered

If player is missing from FA list or rosters, 99% of the time it's because he is not created yet. Also in those cases it's not allowed for GM to just sign that player blindly, but there needs to be first thread to create him and assign a rating.
Finding those players falls to the same category of "GM doing their job", but it still doesn't give the GM doing that work a 100% sure signing.
tbf I think bigger issue here was that George didn't announce anywhere that Tyus has an offer. Why do we do that with other FA's? At least that would have given other active GM's chance to offer something, which ensures that the FA gets best possible deal available

Seems like a fairly innocent series of events led to this signing. Tyus Jones is a natural point guard, looks like a 6ft dwarf even, so Jerry went to George with an offer. George must've forgive-ably presumed he was representing Tyus Jones already. PAs don't always announce they're starting negotiations, it's just best practice. If anything it was my fault for not adding him back to the FA list back in October when his old team didn't pick up his TO. Also it's Tyus Jones, not Steph Curry. One issue that's nagging me in the back of my mind though is that, if we allow this deal to go through without the player being listed on the FA list, then technically that opens the door for that to happen with any player in future, which sneaky weasels might get sneaky about. Future GMs will be able to point to this thread and ask why it was legal for Jerry and not for them. George Gervin Jerry West I'd prefer it if we invalidated this signing and started over again. I know it's a pain and I know it's all kinda stupid considering it's only Tyus Jones, but I'd rather get this process right and spare any difficulties in future. Surely it's must've been a thought in the back of Jerry's mind at least that he was offering on a player that didn't show on the FA list which should've been highlighted in some way or another.

That's fair and I have no problems with that.
But since we are talking about precedents, can I get Giddey back since last year it was set a precedent that despite sitting out on the same NBA team Al Horford was allowed to play in D5? If that's the argument, which is fair, at least give me something here.

I've not looked into Giddey's injury, if you think he should be healed let's keep chatting in the injury thread dynasty5ive.proboards.com/thread/17544/2021-22-injury-list?page=8
