Ricky Rubio has decided to sign what is likely his last D5 contract with Andrei Kirilenko and the Brooklyn Nets. He has been clear that once his young son is school age, he’s hanging up the sneakers for his family, ergo at almost 32 years old with no title, joining a D5 title contender is most important: Year 1 (2021-22): $2,500,000 Year 2: $3,425,258 Year 3: $4,350,516

You guys getting bent out of shape on this signing — he’s almost 32, injured, and said just two months ago that once his kid — who is 2 — is school age, that’s it. You’re acting as if this is some diamond in the rough when Rubio has been the definition these last couple years of a journeyman veteran lol

Still, he could have probably gotten at least 1 year MLE this summer from another good team

There’s a tried and true formula that D5 OSFA has for most sub-80 rated FAs: if you’re not a young guy, on the upswing, or still in your prime, chances are you wallow and twist in the wind as the money dries up. Look at Nic Batum this last year — dude stayed available through FA into the season cause no one wanted a mid 30s wing. And he was a guy with zero injury issues

I offered for Nic Batum back in November. Never got a response. Had a PA change, and by then my money dried up because I had to move on. His PA screwed him.

Is the rosters page outdated or does Brooklyn need to cut someone?
