UTAH JAZZ Derrick RoseThis was quite a winding road. Derrick's first offer was pretty early in the process, and was for the MLE level, for two years. However, that team had higher priorities at the time, and eventually ended up bowing out due to lack of funds. Also early in the race were the Brooklyn Nets. Derrick played the last two years in Brooklyn, and Josh Barber really, really wanted him back. That said, the money wasn't huge ($3M for 1 year for a while, then about $4.5M after a couple of weeks and his other signing processes were wrapped up), and given Derrick signed a 3-year, $42M offer IRL this very same off-season, we felt that Derrick could get more than either of those offers, and we were willing to wait for other "high profile" names to sign. In the end, that worked out well. Over time, two suitors really showed their love for Derrick. Granted, yes, they had cap space to use, with few other options remaining that were worth that money, but they both chose to focus on Derrick and we felt that love. A bidding war ensued, and what was previously a high of more or less the MLE, the offers rose much higher. In the end, while both Jay Z & Jared Montini each raised the offer along the way, they both have pretty solid teams and the differentiation was that Utah was willing to offer a starting position. Derrick will start next to Collin Sexton and play with Tatum & Capela and a solid remainder of their roster. Year 1: $22,000,000 Congratulations to the Utah Jazz!
