For anyone looking ahead, last night two No. 1s in HS rankings— Chet Holmgren (2021) and Emoni Bates (2022)— went head to head. Holmgren is ridiculously thin but man does he have a sense about him as a player that oozes high basketball IQ. Bates did his usual thing, and kept up despite being 16 still.

Emoni Bates is Emoni Bates. He's almost boring as a high school prospect. He's just "the next phenom" but with nothing unique, even though I'd rate him the better of the two right now.
Holmgren is interesting. He could be some weird mix between Giannis and Porzingis. There's just nobody to really compare him too. He really needs to put on weight though. If he can't bulk up he could end up more like Thon Maker or Chris Boucher rather than reaching his potential. If he can add 50-60 pounds then he looks like a total unicorn and could be the best prospect since Anthony Davis.

I agree with both those points; I do really appreciate Holmgren’s attitude and that he seems to have an edge to him that should be a driving force, but his frame is so worrisome. He doesn’t have the shoulders or hips that portend being able to put on a ton of weight without losing something. I think KP with a handle might be his best outcome.

If he doesn't put on weight he's not even going to succeed at the college level.
