After yet another unarmed black man was shot seven times in front of his wife and children, the players have said enough is enough.
So far two of the championship favourites, the Lakers and Clippers, are boycotting the rest of the season. The Bucks also boycotted Game 5.
I'm definitely in solidarity with the players here.

The mentality of US police is crazy. It's like deescalation isn't even considered as a way to solve problems. So many of them approach every issue with force and just increase the amount of force until they've subdued whoever they're dealing with. It's like a military roleplay and the public is the enemy.
That said, I'm not sure what the players hope to accomplish. If they don't have any specific goals or messages they will just be ignored. If what they want is something abstract like "justice" or "awareness" then I don't think that will achieve anything either. I'm curious to see what comes of their meetings today and where they go from here.

Police are getting worse as time goes on. That dude in Arizona got capped in the back and killed when he was on his knees. Didn’t really make the headlines because of his race, but either way, the police shoot first and ask questions later nowadays. Probably because very few get punished unless there is a public outcry.

I think a sad fact is that the police aren't getting worse at all, it's just that people have cell phone cameras on them now.

Yeah I think that's true for violence in general, but for police killings the number has increased a lot in recent decades.
I think the militarization of police has a lot to do with it. Police forces in the US are like small armies now with all the equipment they could ever want. They use war-like tactics with things like no-knock raids and generally have an adversarial outlook with them on one side and the public on the other. So nowadays the Rodney King style beatings have become execution style murders.

That dude in Arizona got capped in the back and killed when he was on his knees. Are you talking about Daniel Shaver? That case is fucked up. The judge in the case prevented the bodycam footage from being released, and it was only publicized the day after the not guilty verdict. Then the police force rehired him for like a month so he could get a lifetime pension. If that doesn't tell you that this is an institutional problem that needs nationwide reform, then I'm not sure anything will. Cops in America are insane and the whole culture is corrupt.

Ryan Whitaker is the one. They knocked early morning and stood on the sides of the door. It was like 4 in the morning. He came out with a gun in his hand but got to his knees when he realized it was cops and the cop in the back just shoots him for no reason. Watch the video, it’s fucking stupid. They even flash him in the eyes with a flashlight so he couldn’t see and then they tell his girlfriend to calm down when the hust killed her boyfriend.

Right, well the fact that I didn't know which case of a cop murdering a white man on their knees in Arizona says it all, doesn't it?
