Welcome everyone to the 1st (possibly annual, possibly not) Dynasty 5ive Off-season tournament. This year hosted by me and Jared Montini . We are lucky to have 25 teams with us in our first year, including the returning Seattle SuperSonics.
Now I know you are asking yourself, 25 teams, how will that work tournament wise? It's simple people. But let me start with my train of thought:
1 - Wanted every team to have a chance to play more than 1 game, in order for people not to be disappointed with a quick exclusion from the competition.
2 - Still wanted the tournament to finsish in a "bracket" format, since it's more exciting than a "league" format, with hopefully the 2 top teams going head-to-head in the final.
3 - That's it, I don't have anything else.
So how is going to work?
After the draft order is set the draft will start right away, it will be 14 rounds (draft order will go: ABBBABABABABAB), and in those 14 rounds you will draft 13 players and 1 coach from the 30 NBA teams. (No free agents or Euroleague players allowed). Why a coach you ask? Well it would be unfair to some teams like I don't know, the Bulls? To be stuck with Jim Boylen. So when drafting a coach, you will also be drafting his playstyle / playbook, so take that into account. You can draft him in any round you want from 1 to 14, but you obviously can just draft one.
After we are done with the draft, group phase will start, there will be 5 groups with 5 teams each with the first 3 qualifying, which gives us a total of 15 teams advancing to the elimination rounds, which leaves us with an open spot. That spot will be filled with one 4th place team, after a "gauntlet" format mini-tournament, starting with the worst 4th seed vs the 4th best seed, where the winner will advance to fight the 3rd best 4th seed and so on, this will be 1 game only elimination style tournament.
After that a classic 16 team single elimination tournament will begin, with the Sweet 16 and Quarter-Finals being a best of 3 and the Semifinals and Grand Finals a best of 5.
The group draws and "lottery" will be tomorow night. Stream link will be dropped in this comment sections around 1 hour before the start of it, so please be sure to check in.
Feel free to ask any questions.
Edit: Forgot to add, we usually take a month to do 2 rounds of a rookie draft so we need to change some things. Each pick will be 4 hours no ifs or buts, take over 4 hours and your skipped. You can pick anytime after that but if you don't pick until your next pick, your pick gets autoed.
Tournament Standings:
24: Charlotte Hornets
23: New Orleans Pelicans
22: LA Clippers
21: Houston Rockets
20: Orlando Magic
19: Brooklyn Nets
18: Chicago Bulls
17: Philadelphia 76ers
