I accept. Thought this year would have turned out differently. It didnt, though. Sending Green to a playoff team and getting some cap relief.

What is the rationale behind letting the trade deadline go so long?
I know that this trade isn't in violation of the rules, but does it strike anyone else as odd that we're allowing a nearly certain playoff team to make a trade with ~5 games remaining?

I mean yeah but like technically Houston hasn't qualified either and I don't think it's fair they can do a trade and I can't.

Maybe we could change it to only teams who have been disqualified can trade, rather than excluding only teams who have qualified

To be honest. Draymond was OTB before the playoff team deadline.

Kind of on the edge with this. Draymond's seeming decline plays a big part, but at least his contract is decreasing as well.
That said, two very veteran GMs, and with that in mind, there isn't enough to reject it, certainly (IMO).

Accept.
I definitely agree with Josh as well. It's better for practical reasons and for "spirit of the rule" reasons. All eventual playoff teams will have the same trade deadline.

Maybe we could change it to only teams who have been disqualified can trade, rather than excluding only teams who have qualified So this is the new rule that was not officially implemented and yet the trade passed. this is where all the 2020 salaries that were traded came from.

This addressing the staggered trade deadline for playoff teams, nothing to do with current year salaries. Go through the season archives and you'll find tons of examples of playoff teams trading with current year salaries post playoffs. This is not a new thing.

yeah all of them are un queued trades, waiting for their salaries to progess. That's just not true. I'll highlight the IND-TOR trade again where Draymond Green is traded immediately before opting out of his player option. If you were right that trade wouldn't have been possible because the progressed salaries would mean trading a free agent. In most cases it makes no difference which year's salaries are used, but sometimes it does, and we've always allowed it as far as I can remember. If you can find one example of a trade being rejected because of this issue, then I'll listen, but beyond that I don't see the point in continuing on this.
