Our current injury rules seem to cause a stir every year, as their is a lot of judgment involved and some grey area when it comes to season-ending injuries when there are less than 6 weeks left in the season.
I want to propose a new injury system for D5, and will nominate myself to be the "Injury Tracker" unless someone else wants the job.
How it will work:
When a player misses 10 or more games in real life, he is then added to the injury list in D5. This takes any sort of judgment out of the equation.
When a player comes back from injury/suspension/absence in real life, we count exactly how many games that player missed. We can do this because D5 is starting more than a month after the real-life season, so we have the benefit of hindsight. For instance, let's say Victor Oladipo misses 35 games this season in real life. Since we know the exact number of games Oladipo should be out, I will go count 35 games for Magic in D5 and track the exact date that Oladipo should return in D5. The tracking post could look something like this:
Next to Return:
John Collins - Dec. 31
Victor Oladipo - Jan. 11
Next to Go Out:
Victor Oladipo - Oct. 31
Steph Curry - Oct 31
DeMarcus Cousins - Oct 31
John Collins - Nov. 2
Detailed Listing
John Collins - 25 games - Out Nov. 2 to Dec. 31
Victor Oladipo - 35 games - Out Oct. 31 to Jan. 11
Steph Curry - In Progress - Oct 31. to Unknown
DeMarcus Cousins - In Progress - Oct 31 to Unknown
I didn't go count games for the above example so they are just estimates. But before Ian Noble does a sim, he can check this tracker to see if any players are supposed to return that day. This makes it easy for Ian and also easy for a GM to see exactly when his player is going to return.
The process to adding someone to the tracker will be similar to our current system, except that we will mirror real-life timelines. If Rajon Rondo gets injured during game 15 in real life and returns during game 27, then we will mirror that in D5. As soon as a player misses 10 games, someone will post "Rajon Rondo has now missed 10 straight games and should be added to the tracker". I will then add Rondo to this tracker to go out on Game 15, and once we know his return date I will update it to say he should return on Game 27.
