I’ve been thinking recently that it might make sense to limit the stockwatch section to actual GMs. Currently, any team with an assistant is essentially getting 2 votes on their own players, which is unfair if you don’t have an assistant. Wouldn’t it be in my best interest to hire an army of assistants and have them all vote for my players?
Just some food for thought

Enraged on seeing the title of this thread but the point Josh makes does make sense.Although my suggestion is to let Assistat GMs vote but maybe take the average of the GM and Assistants vote and count that number as one vote

Eh I see your point but Id still like assistants to get a vote. At one point I was an assistant and that was one of the things that kept me interested while I was on the waiting list. Another reason is because the gm and asst don't always agree on a rating. If you saw the threads Amare made, I disagreed with him by a decent amount on some sws he made.'If it begins to become a problem then I think we should fix it. It's fine right now though

You know how they say that those who are most suspicious of their partner cheating on them are the people most likely to cheat themselves? You know because projection, or a guilty conscience, or they assume others think just like them? Did Josh just admit that he doesn't vote honestly or in good faith in the stockwatch section?
I think we should ban him from the stockwatch section! Everyone who agreed with him should clearly be banned too. In fact, I'm sure if we all sat down and brainstormed together we could come up with reasons why everyone except me should be banned from the stockwatch section. That's clearly the only way to make our ratings fair again.

To Jeremiah’s point, at least we have Assistants voting— we have GMs who I can’t recall the last time they voted on one

If someone can find evidence of someone constantly voting to increase along with a GM maybe I'd be inclined to agree. But I've given lower ratings on my own guys before so if they are being independent then its fine.

I don't see how you can in good conscience let Jeremiah vote, but say other people's votes aren't good enough.

We also have groups of IRL friends here who could vote for one another's players. In fact IIRC D5 is kinda getting a bit taken over by groups of friends!
Josh Barber - George Gervin - Chauncey Billups - Tom Izzo Shaquille O'Neal - Danny Longley - Allen Iverson (friends) Charles Barkley - Mark Price - Jeremiah Hill - Kevin Hollis (enemies) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - Hanamichi Sakuragi (brothers)

I don’t know mark price for the last time lol. Only Barkley does. Not all white cleveland people know each other, stop stereotyping Ian.

Shaquille O'Neal - Danny Longley - Allen Iverson (friends) "Friends" that would sooner vote each other's players down than up. Y'all better watch out.

TL;DR: The more, the merrier.
As a preliminary matter, I do not think just anyone should be able to vote in stock watch, and to my knowledge, a random account's vote doesn't count. The votes are limited to "verified" accounts.
On one hand, I do not think assistants should be able to vote. But, on the other, there's GMs who don't vote. And I know I have fallen into the latter category over the past season, but there are less active people than myself.
As far as groups of friends go, its much easier to coordinate ratings or persuade one another if you have conversations about D5 outside of the forum. Its also a lot easier to make trades, as evidenced by Mark Price and myself.
Traditionally, my view was the more votes in the stock watch the better. But now, even a point or two higher from three or four people usually sways the voting, not necessarily in math but in a group think dynamic.
Some people don't read other people's votes all together. Others only read and consider some people's opinions. Some people only read the first few posts (which is why its sometimes better to get in and vote early if you feel strongly). Some people have stopped reading this post by now.
Inevitably, there's always going to be some sway in the stock watch based on the GM, based on the clique. Walt, Ian, Josh, Alex, and maybe one or two more have officer privileges and officer chat, they may talk about threads.
I may get a text and it may say, "NO WAY IS BEN SIMMONS A 92!!" or I may see someone I don't like post something and just disagree just because.
And, its because of these dynamics that the more votes the better. It's not like I can put Conley up, and text Mark and Kevin and be like "Yo, vote him a 92!" because it would just weird.
There's always a range where a player can realistically fall. And the player is always going to be changed to where they should realistically be. If a player gets an extra 2 overall points, which is a HUGE deal in the overall stock watch, that's only 32 player points, give or take. And if the player doesn't truly need those extra 32, Walt just sprinkles them out and their effect is small.

I don't speak to J anymore, and regret it, and have thought about making amends, but haven't. Mark doesn't know Kevin, although they both are pale and have red hair. I would definitely never vote an extra one or two points for their guys just because I know them. If anything, I'm sorta more inclined to stick it to them. It also makes it different because we are all in the West, directly competing, and we'd much rather beat each other than anything. But, there are times where Mark and I have been talking while golfing and complaining about ratings or making trades.

I like voting because I like forcing my opinion on others.
I can't speak for everyone but I try to be partial no matter who the player is. I don't really care. The only one I've posted myself is the joke Russell Westbrook one to demonstrate the quick over reactions some of you guys have.
I tend to rate conservatively and fairly to the best of my ability no matter who owns the players.
