KP and Tim Hardway Jr. will join Dallas in exchange for Wesley Matthews, DJ and DSJ.
Thoughts?
(We all know this his high way robbery, at least the Knicks get cap for 2 max slots).

I hear KP wants to take the QO and be a UFA come 2020. Pretty risky coming off that injury tho

I may have Stockholm Syndrome from my Knicks fandom, but aside from my initial shocked reaction, this trade is growing on me fast.
A post-ACL tear big man, injury status unknown, who doesn't want to stay with the team, who is appearing like he's less than intelligent with his desire to take the QO
for
A top-10 pick from just one year ago, averaging pretty decent numbers with great improvement from his first season 30 million dollars in cap relief, clearing up space for two max contracts A 1st Round Pick Deandre and Wes (potentially able to flip them for more picks)
I think I read somewhere that the current Knicks management was actually always pushing to get Smith, Jr., but Clarence Gaines (who was the scout that helped draft KP) and F. Jackson pushed to draft Ntilikina.
Again, I could be warped in the head from trying to constantly rationalize the dumb decisions the Knicks make, but maybe this won't be as bad as it looks. Especially if we get the number 1 pick. Or if we are able to recruit any max guys. Or KP's injury is worse than we think. Or KP signs the QO and leaves DAL anyway.
I'm also so happy to see Burke and Hardaway leave the team.

I don’t get the QO thing either; Dallas is a huge market, he knows Luka from their days at Real Madrid— why would he not want to sign a max deal? Dallas also has one of the leagues best medical staffs, and given his history, that can’t be understated
For the Knicks, they’ve embraced the Zero for Zion and look like they want to pair KD with whoever he brings in tow

The good news is that it means he must feel like he is going to be fully healthy? But I agree that if a max offer is there, which surely it would be, then why take the risk and turn it down? It’s high risk low reward.
But my god Doncic and Porzingis... could be a real legacy that was just formed.

The biggest troll job to all Knicks fans would be the Mavs winning the lottery, keeping their pick instead of conveying it to the Hawks, and adding Zion to Doncic and KP

Lost in all of this is that the Mavs “pulled a Hanamichi” on DeAndre Jordan

NYK did not lose in that trade. (You heard it here first)

Insert Dirk into the starting lineup and find one more foreigner and Dallas will complete something none of us could ever imagine. An all foreign caucasian nba starting five. They will then recruit Coach K to come to Dallas.

Now that I've had a night to reflect on it, here are my thoughts:
- The Mavs win this trade by a mile, regardless of the QO stuff or picks involved. Its a quality over quantity league and Cuban knows that.
- However, with the 2 1sts included, its overall not the worst package ever for Kristaps. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking that DSJ has much, if any, value. He was literally getting DNPs for the Mavs until they decided they needed to boost his stock for a trade.
- My theory is that the Knicks told Kristaps that they weren't going to offer him the max extension due to his injury, and Kristaps told them that he would take the QO then.
- Along those lines, I think Kristaps is fully healthy and wanted to play in order to boost his stock in RFA and get a max out on the marketplace this summer. However, the Knicks wouldn't allow that due to their tanking, which obviously would make Kristaps upset.
- Regarding the QO in Dallas, I don't believe this for a second. If the Mavs are offering a max, which I assume they are since they just mortgaged their entire future on him, I expect Kristaps to sign an extension by this time next week. If he gets this max, I don't think he cares if he plays this season. So except him to continue to sit out until next year.
- Lastly, regarding the fit, I honestly cannot think of a better basketball situation for Kristaps. At risk of sounding like I am way overreacting, I think Doncic and Kristaps will win a title together at some point.
