This was truly one of the hardest decisions I've had to make as a PA in my many years as a PA. In all, Otto had SEVEN offers come in this off-season, although one was invalid immediately. By the time I went to committee, I was down to what I considered 4 strong contenders for Otto. This has been a very laborious process, so I will touch on these top teams but will attempt to get the point across quickly. 4th - New Orleans Pelicans. Quite simply, the best pieces on this team, while possessing some enormous upside, also have enormous question marks. George Gervin put it quite well almost immediately upon Committee opening up: "New Orleans presents the greatest "What If?" option for Porter; should Young and JJJ pan out and reach their full potential, they both may (be) better than any player on the other three teams. However, they're both 19 years old, and does Otto have the patience to wait for them to develop?" In addition, Gordon Hayward IS returning from an injury, so that presents further question marks. You can add/supplement George's point with the fact that while Otto is 25, JJJ/Trae are each 19, Hayward is also a few years older than Otto. The timeline of the star players on this team don't quite work out. All told, that's a minor point but, quite simply, we all felt there were too many question marks here and if he was going to leave Cleveland, the other two points made more sense. 3rd - Memphis Grizzlies. Calling them 3rd may be misleading. For quite a while, we had basically decided Otto would leave Cleveland (this later came into some question, and our final choice came down to Cleveland vs Orlando (or, staying or going)) and were debating, at length, the merits of Memphis vs Orlando. Memphis is obviously impressive. Donovan Mitchell is a highly impressive player coming out of his Rookie Season. KAT and Jokic each have their obvious strengths as well, and are quite young with more room to grow. It's almost too easy to make the case FOR Memphis. However, we felt this team lacked a little bit in play-making, which is something Otto felt strongly his new team should have, to help him maximize his potential. The team was also weak on defense. Granted, it then makes sense to target Otto, who is pretty strong on defense, but all told, this roster does have a defensive weakness that Orlando, comparatively, doesn't have. Again as a very minor point, this roster is a little bit younger than Otto (25). Mitchell (21), KAT (22), and Jokic (23) compared to Schroder (24), Oladipo (26), Gobert (26), and Favors (27). All told, if Orlando wasn't bidding, Memphis easily could have won the services of Otto Porter for the next 3-4 years. And, Otto would have had enough play-making with Jokic and, perhaps, Donovan Mitchell develops further there. But, as of now, we felt Otto just fit even better with Orlando. 2nd - Cleveland Cavaliers. This was very difficult. I'll be super upfront and say that we were averse to having two players leave the Cavaliers. We were averse to furthering the trend of good players joining teams full of good players (super-team type situations). We had mountains of conversations about this decision. We didn't want to do it. However.... At the end of the day, Hanamichi's plan for his team was highly questionable in Otto's eyes. Otto felt the team would sorely lack play-makers. The team also lacked rebounding. To put it plainly, the plan for the majority of Cleveland's pitch was to start KCP at Point Guard and RoCo at Center, leaving LaVine on his bench (Dedmon too). While the league may be moving towards "positionless basketball", you still need a balance of skill-sets. And generally, you need some high-end talents to make the unconventional lineups work at a high level. After Otto repeatedly questioned the wisdom of the lineup formations that Cleveland was adamantly standing by, Hanamichi did, at the very end of conversations, reluctantly relent to starting LaVine and Dedmon, but it was clearly not what he wanted to do. By this time, Otto had quite plainly already made his decision. He'd had enough of the plan which would not support his talents. He was excited to play with the team he had decided to join. One more note on Cleveland - We didn't feel Otto owed any great loyalty to the team. He had been with the team for far less than half a season. I think even a quarter season. I know the trade was in April, real time. And again, even with us not wanting to have Otto leave, not wanting more of the super-team-forming FA signings (granted, Orlando is still a bit behind Charlotte/Chicago by comparison), not wanting Hanamichi to lose his two most highly-rated players from last season, at the end of the day, we were left with only one option. The Orlando Magic. Orlando came in very strong immediately. I've already touched on (during the Memphis discussion) some of the reasons Orlando was a great choice for Otto. They're already strong defensively, Otto fits right in with Rudy Gobert and Oladipo. Orlando also has two strong guards who can break down defenses and kick out to an open Otto Porter. That seems ideal, and something that none of the other teams have at the same level. Otto also has the chance to be, potentially, the 2nd offensive option on this Orlando team, behind Oladipo. In Memphis, he's the 4th offensive option. In Cleveland, perhaps he's the #1 option, but the committee felt that's actually not a good thing for a competitive team, overall. Otto's incredibly efficient as a spot-up shooter who gets assisted on 70+% of his shots. That's actually his strength. He's not really supposed to the the #1 option on a team, that team is likely going to fail, especially with no real shot-creators on the team. Anyway, back to Orlando. They have creators/facilitators. They have a balanced team/roster/starting lineup. Their ages line up with Otto's the best (again, relatively minor "issue"). They weren't trying to play 5 SFs in their starting lineup. Otto Porter is extremely excited to join the Orlando Magic on a max contract with max raises and a Player Option in the final year. Year 1: $25,467,250 Year 2: $27,377,294 Year 3: $29,287,338 Year 4: $31,197,382 (Player Option)Total: $113,329,264 Congratulations to Blake Bowman and the Orlando Magic!

We are proud to welcome Mr. Porter to the Orlando Magic; this signing completes our starting lineup, as Otto is a truer small forward than Evan Fournier, and allows us to shift our focus from free agency to trades which will better equip our lineup, upgrading positions and strengthening our bench. This is a great day for the franchise.
Thank you, Mr. Frazier, for your fantastic communication throughout the negotiation process.
—Ian pointed out his signing of ZBo was his highest overall signing, I believe this is my highest overall signing (aside from my re-signings this off season), which makes this an even neater deal for Orlando.

I never imagine having this feeling of brokenness just because of a game like this. At least let us show the world that we gave the hardest fight that we can give for Otto Porter. We answered everything that they threw at us.. We gave our damn best that we provide our answers with real life evidence! Because we thought the spirit of the game is to simulate real life. But it was not. At the end of the day, they did not provide us any clarity on why our points, back-up with real evidence, are not enough. I just hope that we stop calling this a Simulation League, because it was not. Good Day. We would like to present our offer for Otto! A superstar role player. That is the consensus about you. But for us, you are one of our superstar. And we will show that with our offer: 2019: 24,773,250.00 2020: 26,631,243.75 2021: 28,628,587.03 2022: 30,775,731.06 (PO) Total: 110,808,811.84
That is the maximum contract that we can offer for four years. I think, that is the contract that you deserve because, for us, you are one of our superstars. Our target is always the championship. And for us, getting versatile players like you is the best way to form a champion. We have been looking for a player that can take the PF position who can shoot, defend, make plays and steal the ball. According to our scouting, there are only five of you available. So, we will do our best to keep you as much as possible. For the duration of that contract, we expect you to be one of our starting forward. You can count on us that we will always play for the championship. Every year will be meaningful. Every second you are on the court will count. Don't worry about the team around you because we are also on the process of re-signing Jrue Holiday and KCP. We believe that you fit well in our starting line-up and the core of our franchise. One thing that we want to open is that we are also trying to sign another star. Someone that will make your life easier on both ends of the court. We want to end our offer with these four words. We are all in! Hello Hanamichi! One again, your offer is not quite valid. I realize you offered these both around the same time, so you didn't have a chance to fix it. Year 3 should be $28,489,238 and Year 4 should be $30,347,232. Moving on! First question - this is the max you can offer for 4 years (as modified by me above), however, you can actually offer a 5th year since you have Bird Rights. Is that something you are just not interested in? We have enjoyed our time in Cleveland so far, and Otto is open to staying with the Cavaliers and helping to build towards that ever-elusive championship. That being said, as a recently-turned 25 year old with a lot of career left in front of him, Otto is looking to see what offers come in for him. We will collect offers and will get back to you. Thank you! 2019: 24,773,250.00 2020: 26,631,243.75 2021: 28,489,238 2022: 30,347,232 (PO) The contract that we are offering provides you with better control of your future. If you are not happy with us already, you can enter Free-Agency again after 3 years. Of course, we will do our very best for that not to happen. And, entering the Free-agency when you are 29 instead of 30 could be vital. Hi Hanamichi, We got a little thrown off-course with the contract discussions, and I was just generally distracted with other player negotiations. Otto still has some interest in coming back to the Cavs, but we kind of want to see what else is happening with your lineup. If Otto were to agree to come back to the Cavs, what would your current starting lineup be? It seems it would feature Otto, Zach LaVine, and Dewayne Dedmon. How are negotiations going with Jrue and KCP? If you convinced all 3 of these players to return, would that be your starting lineup? Jrue/LaVine/KCP/Porter/Dedmon? Thanks for your time! We are very happy to hear from you again. We are still on track in trying to sign Lebron James to be part of the starting line-up. The plan is to have a five of Holiday-KCP-Lebron-Otto-Dedmon, with Lavine as the 6th man and can start when needed to. So, in case Lebron is persuaded by the other teams, our next target is Covington. So, the five now will be Holiday-KCP-Covington-Otto-Dedmon. That line-up has two elite dimensions. Defense and Shooting. The current negotiations with Covington and KCP are going smooth. Jrue's camp is also waiting for the decision of Lebron. Hope to hear back again. Thank you Great, thank you for the response. We have had a lot of interest, actually the most offers out of any of my clients this offseason, and have a lot to think about still in regards to where Otto wants to spend the next portion of his career. Thanks, we'll be getting back to you! Thanks! One thing that we want to make clear Walt is, we are willing to go full max with the extra year provided by BR if Otto chooses long-term security instead of control Thanks Hanamichi. That's an update to your offer, the 5th year is at least worth talking about. Monetarily, that's your main advantage, so, it's a good plan to offer that up. Interesting. I'll present to Otto and we'll chat through the options. Hello Hanamichi. At this point, I'd like to see if you'd like the opportunity to argue against the other managers/teams remaining in the running for Otto. They are: Grizzlies Magic Pelicans Okay. Let me have that chance. General point: Why would he join them for lesser money? Again, I am willing to give him the max or the 3+1. Security or control. It will be his choice. Against Pelicans: He has new rookies and Gordon but without any proven record of being a good franchise. If this is real life, I am pretty sure BS should have been fired two seasons ago. Against Magic: We will be more flexible as a franchise. Orlando will cap out already this offseason, like us, but he doesn't have the abundance of assets that we have. They also have a traditional scheme that will limit the impact of Otto. With Gobert and Favors inside, he will not get that much open shot that we can give him. Against Memphis: With us, he can be known as THE GUY, with them he will be known as one of the guys in the Memphis Grizzlies and the guy. Only a few NBA players are like Adams who are willing just to be one of the guys. Otto signed an offer sheet with Brooklyn. A team lacking a star. System-wise, Porter will be limited to be a catch and shoot shooter. Overall: The more money that we can offer. That is our biggest advantage. Magic, Memphis and our team are all contending next season. Yes, we have a weaker team in paper, but Otto battled with us in the playoffs already. We pushed hard for it. He saw us roared when we won those three games against Toronto. He cried with us when lose. And our system. We have the system that will feature him the most. KCP, Dedmon, Covington are not ball dominant players. The ball will move pretty well and pretty good in finding Otto. We trust you Walt and the committee Thanks for this Hanamichi. As you can imagine, I've given the same chance to the other teams. We're working towards making a decision. Hello Otto. The plan has changed. Even though Jrue has decided to leave, we will keep on fighting for him until the last possible chance. But, if we fail, then we will ask you to be the man. We are not asking you to carry the offensive burden. I think, the system will take care of that. We are asking you to be the best player in the court for our team! We trust you that you can do that, and that is the reason why we are letting you decide between a full 5 years max and a 3 plus 1. We will never waiver from our championship aspiration. Yes. We will always be underrated. But, we want to show what team basketball can do. Hello Mr. Sakuragi, Otto is still deciding where he'd like to spend the next few seasons. As you pointed out yourself earlier, there is some merit to not signing that full 5-year deal, which also means that other teams are on relatively even ground with you monetarily if Otto chooses he doesn't wish to sign a 5 year contract. Also, I should inform you that Otto is leaning towards deciding between two teams, and you are not one of those 2 teams. Generally the committee feels Otto isn't looking to be "the man" on a team right now. He thrives when playing next to creative teammates who can drive and dish, break down the defense and then find him open on the wing. He has not yet made his decision, and you're not entirely eliminated yet either, but the entire committee at this point is leaning towards either Orlando or Memphis. Kindly remind them that he signed an offer sheet with BKN in real life. If he wanted LESSER MONEY AND WAS FINE JUST BEING THE SECOND-FIDDLE, then WHY DID HE DO THAT? Yes. There is no indication that he wants to be the man, but how can you conclude then that that is the indication that he does not want to be? We are talking about competitors here. Are you telling me that the MAJORITY of them wants to play second-fiddle? Where is the evidence? And come on man. We are offering the most money. What is the foundation of your thought that he wants to take lesser money? We are supposed to SIMULATE real life, not to create another world with a different way of thoughts. linkCheck that link to see that the offer-sheet that he signed with BKN was fully-incentivise. In short, MONEY! Then this one: The Sacramento Kings had also offered Porter a maximum contract after meeting with him on Sunday. But after the Kings agreed to big-money contracts with a pair of veterans early Tuesday — first a three-year, $57 million deal with point guard George Hill and then a two-year, $24 million deal with big man Zach Randolph — combined with a prior three-year, $27 million agreement with Serbian guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, whose rights they acquired in a trade last year with the Phoenix Suns, they no longer had the cap space to offer Porter a maximum deal.
When those moves happened, the expectation was that Porter had told Sacramento he wasn’t going to sign there — meaning that he had another maximum offer in hand from a more-desirable team. It turned out the Nets were that team, with their offer coming after their meeting with Porter.
Now the ball is in Washington’s court. And, barring a reversal from what several sources have maintained for months, Porter will return to the Wizards as the team’s highest-paid player next season.linkIf he doesn't lean on being the GUY, then why did he talk to two teams that do not have ace players? I have a foundation of my belief that he leans TOWARDS Money and Being the guy. If you can kindly watch this one link
There are two things that standout. When he was asked if there is a chance that he will want to leave DC, he said a little bit.. and then say .. for the business standpoint.. He values money. And if you scrutinize the league, money/contract is a symbol of value in the league. It is not really about how much they are getting, but how much they are getting in comparison to others. In the last part, when he discussed his potential, he focuses on impact and being all over the place and being versatile. The best way to do that is a team wherein he is the lead guy. If he plays second-fiddle, he needs to FIT on a role that the team sets for him. What we are offering is a chance for him to grow his game in any way he wants. We've discussed the BKN real-life offer sheet. That was the summer of the big cap space explosion. Who is to say the Wizards didn't say "hey Otto, we're bringing you back no matter what. If you want to see what your market is, go and get yourself an offer and we'll match it, because you are our guy." I do believe most of the committee feels that players understand their games and roles, especially after a couple of years. There's a ton of advanced-metric data that shows Otto really thrives by being a spot-up shooter who is assisted on I believe 72% of his shots. You yourself offered only the 4-year offer first, correct? You made the argument that he may want to take the 3+1. We are saying, we agree, he may want that option after 3 years. Not totally decided yet, but that's what I was getting after. ------- Only teams without ace players even had the cap space to be burning on offers that season. That's why those mediocre-to-bad teams were offering big money to Otto. ------- Impact, all over the place, versatile is actually exactly what I'm saying, he understands his role. He's versatile, plays defense, gets after loose balls, impacts the game in tons of different ways, knocks down 3's, rebounds, makes the right pass, etc. He doesn't really create for himself. He hasn't shown he has that skill, really. ------- All of that said, the 5th year is probably your main advantage at this time. And, if the committee decides to reign-in the number of players signing with better teams in the interest of the health of the league, that could also play a factor, tbh. Not sure yet where all of these factors are taking everyone. You are a top 2-3 option at this time. Committee Request: For your 5-year offer on Otto, does that also include a Player Option on Year 5? Additional Request: If you were to sign Otto, what is your starting lineup? Again. Thanks for the effort Walt. But I really hope you can see where I am coming from. Let us simulate real life. Let us not create a better NBA. I am fine making the 5th year a PO. The starting line-up will be KCP,Ingles,Batum,OP,RoCo KCP will be the PG all throughout as we do not have any option. Ingles will play a lot of SG and some SF and PF. Otto will play a lot of PF and then SF and PF. Batum will play a lot of SG and SF. Hey Hana, Can you declare your priorities in your current offers? Is Otto your #1 option? Where do Batum & Ingles fall? Are you offering on any other players? Thank you Otto is #1. Ingles #2 and batum #3. I am offering on a young C and I think they can all fit. If you got the young C, would that change your starting lineup at all? Additionally, Otto is not comfortable with your proposed starting lineup. Yes, he's playing the 3 or the 4, though, primarily the 4, which is a bit out of position for him which is a slight negative. But the team you are preparing to put around him is a larger negative. It lacks playmakers who can help him thrive and seems to lack focus/credibility with the all-swingmen type lineup. I understand that's something you wish to try but the committee is not convinced that's something Otto would like at all. He may refuse to consider signing with you unless if you plan to bring Ingles or Batum on board. I did not get the last part. The young C is Georges Niang. They are not convinced that he will like it or they are convinced he will hate it? What is the basis? If they are convince that that is a negative for us, what is the basis? How can you make it a negative against us without a basis? When you realized that the two teams that he talked to during the 2017 free-agency lack playmakers. How can you make that a negative for me? And how about realizing that Washington just drafted ANOTHER WING with the 15th pick when their supposed need of BIGS and a back-up PG are available? Check this one linkHis team is now adhering to the not-enough wing mentality. How can you make that a negative now for me? Regarding his position, I will change my stance and say that he will play more SF than PF. That is due to the fact that we need better defense on that position than PF. So, Ingles may play a lot of PF, with Batum playing a lot of SG. The 22 times that Ingles will be playing off-the-bench, we will insert Dedmon to play as C and try line-ups in preparation for the playoffs. And regarding playmaking, yes we do not have a player that can consistently breakdown the defense but by having above average shooters in the floor, we do not need an elite playmaker. With that five, they can easily attack a small crack in the defense. Example: A DHO in the elbow with KCP and Porter. Porter popping out creates a great lane for KCP. Especially if you realize that Batum, RoCo and Ingles are on the outside. We will also try to create a lot of transition opportunities to make sure that we thank advantage with the size and athleticism of our five, including Lavine and Bell in the bench. The need of players capable of breaking down defenses is to help out teammates in getting better looks and opportunities. The combined shooting, vision, handle and IQ of this five should compensate for that. And the lack of playmaker should be a challenge to Otto to evolve again. We will be patient with him and help with the best of our ability as he continue to develop. My phone auto corrected or something. Get rid of the word unless in my last sentence above. Quite plainly Ian has stated he wouldn't allow you to play games with your proposed lineup. You're benching LaVine who actually can make some sense as a PG for KCP? Makes no sense. Playing Covington at C is not sitting well on the committee either. Again quite plainly, the consensus is that your starting lineup plan is very off-putting, the words "stupid/bad" are even being floated. I believe he's going to leave your team as the plan for your team is far too extreme and unrealistic. It's not a conducive lineup to his success or to the team's success. Why are you suddenly tightening up things? I know that the plan is extreme but I never crossed any line that was created. Tell me Walt, did I do anything illegal? Did I do anything wrong? He will not allow it? Okay. I am now offering Batum the 6th man role. But that is the last thing that I will adjust to my plan. I know that Ian is putting the most effort here and I respect and I am grateful about that. But it hurts that an idea will not be allowed when I am not doing anything wrong. It was stupid/bad? Okay. That was the thought of small-ball line-up a decade ago. I just showed you that Washington in real life is trying to go small too. I am backing all my answers with real life evidence. One of Houston's effective line-up in the playoffs was Tucker-Mbah-Ariza-Harden-Paul. Even Capela was forced out by GSW! The committee is really opposed to the 5-Small-Forward thing, and really I am too. As to your Houston comparison, that featured two Hall-of-Fame players in the backcourt playing their correct positions, with only PJ Tucker playing a bit out of position (though he primarily plays PF in real life). Those lineups are also lineups, used sometimes based on matchup, but not starting lineups. Pretty much everyone sees you loading up on 4 SF's and one SG/SF and no one thinks you will have any great offensive movement and also will get destroyed on the glass (rebounding). It looks like a recipe for failure, plain and simple. Yes, teams go small, but it takes very special talent and unique players to pull it off. Quite frankly, the cast you're assembling doesn't fit the bill. I also fear you may be shooting yourself in the foot with Zach LaVine for next year. I think a year on the bench is going to piss him off when he's the 1st or 2nd best player on the team and you're playing SF's at PG. Further off the record on my end now, I think you're a slam dunk to get Batum and Ingles, whether offering starting roles or not, because you're offering enough money to throw everything else out of the window to be honest. But, I STRONGLY suggest you start LaVine and Dedmon most of the regular season and then pick three of your SF-types. ----------------------- I think the committee is very, very thrown off by your proposed lineups and are very close to having decided to send Otto elsewhere. And that is even with us discussing not wanting to have two players leave you this offseason, and not wanting to create any more "super-team" type situations. Your competitors for Otto have super strong offers and one of them surrounds him with playmakers and super strong defenders, it just looks like a perfect fit to be honest. If Batum is your 6th man, what's your starting lineup if you sign Ingles / Batum / Otto? It is understandable to conclude that special talent is needed to work out a small ball line-up. But, not really. The reality is, shooting and versatile defense is the key for a small ball line-up to work. I will back down from that if you can show me any five man line-up who have at least two 3-and D types, and four capable shooter and four versatile defenders (those who defends at least three position) that played for at least 100 minutes and did not get at least a positive 1.0 net of per-possession scoring. Moving off the ball create the same cracks in the defense that breaking down a defense does. The ability to hit threes further constraints the defense from making any mistakes, does right movement and right screening will produce great shots because offensive players are always half-step ahead. Let me simplify it, a small-ball team with five super-extravagant-out-of-this-world talents will not work if they do not have an outside shot and defense from the majority of those five. We will not be destroyed in the board. What happened to Clint Capela against GSW opened my eyes. Will you agree with me if I say that Capela is the best center in defending in space? Capela was not able to maintain the strain of defending in space and he does not have the experience to be effective there for the majority of a game, especially if the space that is created is as big as what GS created. What I am saying is, a bigman will not be able to exploit the size disadvantage because of the pressure that shooting and versatility creates. I am not really one step ahead of my plan. I think one or two teams will go extreme in the regular season this 2019. (PHX and ATL are my guesses) But, we will postpone with the plan. We will not go all-out with the extreme line-up in the regular season. We are hoping by next season, you will be more amenable to that. Why? Because we want Otto so bad. We now want to reveal something to Ingles. We are hoping it would be fine for him to play off-the-bench. Either the 6th or the 7th man role. Playing off-the-bench doesn't mean he is less important than our first five. He is as important as our first 5. So, with Batum and Ingles off-the-bench, we plan to play our 2nd unit through them. They will be surrounded by Jordan Bell and Reggie Bullock. Just like the starting line-up, the 2nd unit will also be a fire-throwing five. So, the plan now is to have a starting line-up of: PG - Lavine SG - KCP/OP/RoCo SF - OP/RoCo/KCP PF - Roco/ROCo C - Dedmon One more thing that we want to reveal was, we basically offered for Hassan Whiteside. But, Batum is still our priority for that cap space. But if Hassan can help us lure Otto back, we will make the signing. (Was that clear?) We just want to tell Otto something.
We are fighting for you with all the efforts that we can put in. We are not backing down. When we told you that you are now our guy. We mean it.
People think that I am not loyal but let me tell you the truth.
In our first four seasons in this league, who was our guy? Wanna make a guess? I doubt you will name the right guy.
You know why? Because that guy never played for our team.
We did everything. We moved every piece that we have, to create the best squad that he can take to the championship.
We thought we were on the right track. We have a guy who basically opened the door to mystical creatures.
Unfortunately, our Unicorn succumbed to an injury. And what did we do?
We traded him. Because our guy, who never played for our team, is old and cannot waste two years of waiting around for our Unicorn to heal and building chemistry.
What was the reason why we took the effort to research about outside shooting and versatile defense? Because those are the skills that the teammates of our guy will need, for him to play at the maximum.
Why did we trade for Jrue and gave up the 2019 PHX 1st? Because that was the kind of PG that fits perfectly with our guy.
It is easy to say that we are not loyal if you are on the outside and we totally understand that.
But our organization takes pride by the truth that for every moved and transaction that we made, we were looking on our guy. Hoping that it will be enough for our guy to go home and fulfill his promise.
We now need to move on because he did not.
We need a new guy. And we are confident you are the one.

Wow this means the only pieces Cleveland has back from the Kristaps trade is essentially Zach Lavine and Brooklyn 2020 1st. Yikes

Not adding Bird Rights players to the cap the off season they sign is the most unrealistic aspect of this league and it's flat out ridiculous honestly. Orlando signed $96 million this off season and is still "under the cap." Good for Orlando. Not blaming them. Just this aspect of the league is beyond absurd.

This happens in the real NBA literally all the time. In fact I can't think of a time a team didn't use their remaining cap space before re-signing a bird rights free agent. It'd be more unrealistic to not do this IMO

That’s how it works in real life also... players commit to signing before actually inking their deals so teams can use their cap space

I honestly think the worst part of your strategy was wasting your time bidding on LeBron. There was no way he was going to leave Golden State.

So this isn't remotely how it works. You can say hey, doing cap holds would be impossible for a league like ours. But to insist that stuff like this would be realistic isn't true at all. www.hoopsrumors.com/2016/04/hoops-rumors-glossary-cap-holds.html

I thought the green numbers were the player options that weren't picked up but weren't taken off the rosters yet. That makes much more sense now. Sorry about that. I know how cap holds work, I just didn't think they were accounted for here.

I will say that I am pretty surprised no SF has gone to Memphis yet.

Yeah me too.
I just don't like that the only reason Orlando had bird rights on any of his players is that I made a post about him not claiming them, real sign of activity. He signs 4 of the top FAs in one off-season and we won't hear from him again for a year.
I honestly can't see how he went to Orlando over my team or the Cavs.
But hey it is what it is, the East gets a real competitive team to bother Chicago and Charlotte.
Good signing.

It breaks my balls that we have an OSFA system where there's zero chance I get to sign a player because I've traded so well that all my positions are stacked, but Bowman gets a guy like Otto Porter because he's shown up for one month a year and has a hole at that position but congratulations Blake, ya fuckin' wanker

No offense to Ian or Jeremiah, but here is the total rating for the starting lineup of your teams:
Magic - 425 (after Millsap trade, which was included in offer) Celtics - 417 (419 if Porter has signed, although Ian didn’t even offer?) Grizzlies - 414 (would actually be 412 with Porter since Jeremiah was going to bench Evans)
I think there’s some “active GM bias” going on. The Magic are better than either the Celtics or Grizzlies.

Yeah but my team also has depth Top 8 rated players: Magic - 640 Celtics - 658 Grizzlies - 642

I have always been for pushing for more activity out of some gms. I understand we all have real life commitments, but Jeremiah is right. It is rather annoying that 1/4 of the league rarely participates on player ratings etc.

I'd rather have people be as active as myself as well but unfortunately that's not realistic. Blake shouldn't be punished for inactivity, it's actually smart for a gm to sit and wait in his team. Some active guys in our league mess there teams up by making 1 too many moves. I do believe however that there should be a minimum requirement for how many stockwatch votes you have to make. We need more contribution from inactive gms even if it's not a lot

lets do the most inactive GM per year voting and the highest vote will be kicked out or be an assistant GM until further notice.
