I'm very conflicted lol. On paper it's a great trade and the Raptors get way better, especially defensively. I've never been a believer in DeRozan's game. He's a player from the 90s style and if he was playing in that iso era I swear he'd be a perennial MVP candidate. He's playing today though where analytics matter and DeRozan is way too inefficient to lead a team anywhere close to a championship. I'm actually more disappointed about losing Jakob Poeltl because I think he's going to be a very good player. In real life though, what kind of Kawhi is coming to the Raptors? If he's just going to go through the motions and half-ass it all season before bolting to LA as soon as possible, then it's a pretty shitty deal. It'll be a big letdown to throw away a huge part of the team identity for the toxic version of Kawhi that we've seen this year. It's a huge gamble, but I get it since the team as constructed clearly wasn't going all the way. If the impossible happens and Kawhi ends up re-signing, then it's amazing. If he plays lazy and leaves for LA next year, then I guess the rebuild just starts a year or two early.

The deal makes no sense for the Spurs long term. DeRozan isn't making them competitive in the West. They're just delaying the necessary rebuild until Pop retires. I don't think it's got anything to do with the long term. If Pop is planning to retire in a few years then he probably doesn't want to spend those seasons coaching a garbage team that's rebuilding. He'll take Aldridge and DeRozan and company and win 50+ games and put up a decent fight in the playoffs. I guess that's good enough until he retires and then SAS can truly blow it up and rebuild.

I'm not sure how you can act like this is anything other then a steal for Toronto. You instantly have the best team in the East and a chance to go to the finals. The lineup of Lowry, Green, Kawhi, OG, and Siakim has the potential to be devastating defensively. They gave up so little to get a top five NBA player. And even if Kawhi leaves next season it's not the end of the world. The Lowry and DeRozan core wasn't going to take you to the finals. They're able to get off the DeRozan contract and will be able to do a complete rebuild if necessary. Also I think it'll be really hard for Kawhi to leave Toronto. Leaving a 60 plus win team is tough and Toronto is a great city that will accept him as soon as he gets there. The deal makes no sense for the Spurs long term. DeRozan isn't making them competitive in the West. They're just delaying the necessary rebuild until Pop retires. What happened to the Celtics? Did they close the franchise? If Hayward and Kyrie come back healthy Boston is still the clear top to bottom most talented team in the East.

Looks like Rozier will be the odd man out in Boston's PG fight. He'll make great trade bait.

Jabari - "They don't pay players to play defense". He sure has that right.

Honestly thought Schroeder was worth more. Shows how much I know.

Honestly thought Schroeder was worth more. Shows how much I know. Feels like he’s a Reggie Jackson clone in both skill and attitude— hopefully he’s okay with being the 6th man in OKC

Paraphrasing here but Pop has a way of putting stuff in perspective.
In response to the question of the ordeal with Kawhi:
Look at the news, there are billions of people going through ordeals. We get payed to play basketball. There is was never an ordeal.

LeBron takes another step in ruinning his legacy by going to the Lakers and act as Co-GM to Magic.
This time, with the signing of former 2nd round pick (only did went first because of Rose) Michael Beasley.
If the Lakers don't make any trades I'm about to bet on them missing the playoffs.

That's fair. But I really believe Lebron will take a step back this season because even himself knows he can't compete for a championship, and lay off a little to be a bit fresher next year with 1 or 2 actually good FA. Right now I have Golden State, Houston, Oklahoma, Utah and San Antonio in front of them. With them being in the same tier of Portland, Denver and Minnesota. Plus the Clippers and New Orleans are still pretty good teams who are going to be vastly underrated.

Spacing is such a big part of LeBron's game. If he isn't able to score in transition with the Lakers, his efficiency numbers could take a huge hit. You could argue this could be the worst team spacing wise that he's been on since 2008.
He's also going to be asked to guard the 4 or 5 the and be the team's best rebounder. I don't think he's capable of doing both while carying the scoring load for 82 games. This could go sideways quick.

Anyone think Kuzma has a crazy year this seasons and becomes an 82 overall?

I really liked Kuzma at the start of last year, but I didn't feel like he got better at all during it, plus he is already 22. Will he ever be a 82? Definetly. Next year? Not so sure.

Here's to 2 years of mediocre playoff appearances and 2 years of having an albatross contract on the books. If he balls out it will show playing with LBJ really doesn't help star players at all (turns out Kyrie never wanted him to come to Cleveland). If he balls out it will also turn him into a valuable trade chip again.

He'll sit out, work out with the team for the entire year, and then get ROTY in 2019-20. It'll all work out fine
