Miami Heat receive:81 - Enes Kanter - $26,085,000 - $28,954,350 - $32,139,329 - $35,674,655 - $39,598,867
Boston Celtics receive:82 - Dwight Howard - $28,001,085
This trade is a very big deal for me. 7 years ago I received Enes Kanter in the first trade I ever made. He remains the last link back to my championship squad of 2012. I've watched Enes become an extremely dominant player. Since Kristaps went down with injury he's averaged 19.3ppg / 13.5rpg in 31 mins/gm which is pretty mind-blowing. And as of this week NBA.com's new statistic, box-outs, both Kanter and Miami big-man Steve Adams both lead the league in box-outs, whatever that means... With Kristaps out for a year it's probably inevitable also that Kanter will get a ratings boost, he was due a boost anyway, since apparently even his defense is much improved this year. It's Kanter's gigantic contract and the upcoming hard cap that has me nervous - not for this year, but next year when I have to re-sign Embiid, Jabari and Jerami Grant. I don't particularly have any free agents in mind. Looking at my Excel spreadsheet it's going to take a team with cap space like Miami to keep a guy like Enes around, they will still have flexibility even with him on the books, especially when Wade retires. I've loved maintaining Kanter's player profile, he's been the one stable link throughout all the years of D5, scored over 7000 points in Boston, grabbed 5000 rebounds, he was 18 when he joined the Celtics. I'll still follow his progress in New York this year. It wont be the same without him. End of an era.

I Accept.

Easy to see the reasoning for both teams here, and it's been explained clearly by Ian why he does this. Bolton now doesn't need to worry about Free Agency for at least one more starting position on his team. Not a bad strategy at all. Also gets younger. The contract is still a bit rough but there are advantages to not dealing with the FA process here

Bit of a stretch IMHO

Bit of a stretch IMHO No! Mozgov's contract was 31 million remaining, Kanter's is 140!! It's the largest contract in NBA HISTORY. Mozgov is 6 years older, yeah, but they actually have about the same amount of NBA wear and tear on them. Kanter's just under 26 years old but he's been in the league 7 seasons already. Playing on the Knicks has boosted his value tremendously but there are very very few teams where he might start. Plus, what kind of move is this for Miami? Their best player/prospect is going to be a FA so they go and trade for a player who plays the same position except is owed 140 million?! Why would Steven Adams re-sign with MIA now?

They are actually bestfriends and remember we play nba 2006 sims. Dwight and Adams is working for me right now and why not change it with a younger player and Kanter has a lot more potential in New york playing with Porzingis in the years to come.

Maybe Troy thinks if he goes into FA with cap space he may not be able to convince anyone to sign with him. He's force-signing a 26 year old NBA player and not dealing with the stress of one starting position to sign this off-season. With both trades, he swaps (long-term) Wade money for Kanter money and rounds out the middle of his roster. Personally I wouldn't pay Kanter this, but I just think "cap space" is overrated in certain circumstances, and Troy above potentially all others has shown he'll stick around. He pretty much knew he'd lose LeBron and instead of bitching or quitting he moved him out for something before he could leave for literally nothing. Then he carried on and kept having fun and kept having a solid team that wins. And still makes trades. It's justifiable enough from very proven manager who has won and continues to win, at a relatively decent level. You're just mad Ian figured out a way to open up space for his stud stable of signings coming up. And maybe Troy could have gotten some more value out of Ian, though I think Ian would have just gone elsewhere or held tight and figured something else out later.

I think you’re just too invested in defending your initial acceptance. No one else has accepted or even commented on this. Kanter has one of the most bloated contracts in NBA history. His remaining salary is more than the Celtics just signed Gordon Hayward for, and LIKE ALWAYS, his value is being inflated because he’s 1) on a bad team and 2) a Knick. Kanter is not good lol he’s a great rebounder and a very solid post scorer but has literally zero other skills and is a massive liability on defense (despite marginal improvement in that area). Troy is not a bad GM but to say that a GM who had Lebron and then somehow stumbled into a sim-favorable pairing of Adams and Howard (which clearly would be a devastating failure IRL) is somehow “very proven” is an overstatement IMO. Avoiding FA by taking on the worst contract in the entire league (probably tied with D Rose, maybe worse) is not a valid reason to make a trade. Combine all that with the fact that, like it or not, Kanter plays the same position as Adams, who just so happens to be entering FA, and is the only young positive asset on the Heat besides John Collins who ALSO plays that position. Yeah, “skipping the FA process” to pay Conley and Kanter 80 million in three years while marginalizing your big upcoming FA is totally worth it ...

As for the 3rd sentence, let em vote / comment. I can and have changed my position on a trade before (rarely, but it's happened). I think you're "more down" on Kanter than anyone else I've ever seen, to be 100% honest. And that's fine, but, it doesn't make you right about him. Just your opinion. I've personally liked him since college. Doesn't mean I'd pay him what Ian paid him, but I do like him as a player, not because he's a Knick. I'd also say with as bad of a reputation as the Knicks have (deservedly so) for the past, oh, nearly two decades, I think your statement that people overrate Knicks players is kinda weird. I don't think that happens around the league as a whole. Knicks fans might overrate Knicks players, but every team's fans overrate their own players. Anyway, I haven't seen a good enough argument to convince me to vote against it. Dunno what to tell ya man. I don't agree with your values here, you don't agree with mine. Let's see what the other TC have to say.

Maybe Kanter's not currently worth the contract, but he's at least a starting caliber center and it at least runs off by the time he's 30. Maybe Troy could've gotten more value out of it sure, but I still feel like it works considering he's likely losing Dwight for nothing come OSFA.
I feel like the Mozgov comparison is a bit of a stretch - with Mozgov, you're overpaying by $16m or so for your average bench guy. With Kanter, you're overpaying maybe $5-10m for a 3rd-4th best starter.
And if anything, I'd think Kanter would help in re-signing Adams - most of what you see about Adams and Kanter seems to be positive.
Accept.

Can't wait until 2021-2022 when Kanter is making the same money as James Harden, Steph Curry, and Russell Westbrook. Surely in 4 seasons Kanter will be worth that much.
You guys have rose-tinted glasses for Ian's moves or something, I can't explain it any other way.

Enes Kanter played 16mpg on Boston this year, unable to start despite Center being the team's biggest need. He was recently given away for... Mario Hezonja?
He is currently owed, in D5, $75,273,522. Ian traded away this contract for an expiring, and only had to pay the small price of .. nothing?
Words used to describe Kanter in this thread: "Extremely dominant," "starting caliber," "lot more potential in New York," "I like this for both teams"
