LA Lakers Open The LA Lakers are looking for a new GM! Previous GM: Magic Johnson retired after a Hall of Fame career and 11 years service You have one month to show the Hiring Committee you're up to the job of leading the league's most premier franchise!
What are we looking for before we appoint you as Lakers GM? Engagement and Activity
Someone who can show they will be an active member of Dynasty Five for a long time, to make the Lakers their own and build a great dynasty and to understand that it will be a job that will take many years! We want someone who wants to become part of the semi-roleplaying atmosphere of being a real NBA GM here at D5, who gets involved in rating players, day-to-day discussion and even posts media centre articles such as rankings, jersey switches, analytics, scouting reports or stories.
Knowledge
The Lakers roster is in a difficult place right now: not good enough to compete for a championship, but not really able to tank and rebuild due to possessing only two of their own first round draft picks over the next 4 years! With 4 players heavily burdening the Lakers salaries it will take a lot of time, patience, hard work and good decision making to turn this franchise around! The shrinking hard cap is putting pressure on some of the best teams in the league, so maybe exploiting that situation would be an avenue to explore first? Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure how the league functions!
As a sophomore Kyrie and Kobe teamed up for the Lakers here at D5 (jersey switch: Ian Noble ) How to Apply ***Reply to this thread to introduce yourself***
Explain your experience with NBA basketball, which team you support, where you live etc. Possibly explain your plans for the Lakers if you were to take over as GM. Choose a GM name that's not been taken already Keep active as outlined above
Also have a read of What is Dynasty Five? After one month the Hiring Committee will meet to decide who gets hired for the job! note: even if you miss out on this team, showing you're a committed, hard working GM will put you first in line for any future team openings and ahead of everyone else on the waiting list.

Hi, I'm applying for this GM job, and let me just start off by saying that I'm very excited to finally be able to apply for a team and O would be very honored to manage a legendary team like the Los Angeles Lakers..
I am a supporter of the Portland Trailblazers, and I have been supporting the team I was seven years old. I can tell you how excited I was about Greg Oden being drafted first, and then how disappointed I was at the start of next season.
If I were to take over the Los Angeles Lakers,I would have many plans that would lead to success. I would attempt to make the roster as young as possible, either by drafting, trading, or signing undrafted players or young free agents during the free agency period. I would also attempt to garner more draft picks. In conclusion, my plan with the Los Angeles Lakers would be to make the roster younger and more exciting.

That's a good introduction! It's good to see you've been into the NBA since 2007! Greg Oden's got a sad story indeed he went #1 in our first ever rookie draft ( link)! As you've read in the original post - the Lakers is a special job, even if their roster isn't all that great right now, and the Hiring Committee is going to be interested to see who here will have the patience and skill to bring them back to contending for a championship one day, maybe many years from now! The aim is to make this process last until March 12th, but depending on how it all goes we may hopefully have a decision before then! Good luck! Any questions just ask

Hey, I'd like to apply for the GM job as well. I'm friends with Charles Barkley (the one on here not the real one). We worked together this summer and we spent most of our free time talking about his team and how to improve his roster. So I'm familiar with the site and the time commitment that comes with running a dynasty5ive team. I am knowledgeable about the NBA CBA, but Charles Barley was able to show me know the settle nuances of your CBA and how it differs from the real one. I believe I have a firm grasp on it and would be able to make meaningful moves right away.
I love the idea of being a basketball GM. Roster construction is something that intrigues me. I enjoy the challenge of building a team in a competitive environment. While I know that this Lakers team doesn't have many future assets and is stuck in the middle, I have ideas of how to improve the team that won't sacrifice all of it's short term assets or sell off the few long-term assets the team has. I believe that there are small, but impactful moves that can be made that would turn around the course of this team.
I'm an avid NBA fan and am knowledgeable about the league in general. I'm a huge Cavs fan and write for their fansided NBA blog. I'm a committed blogger and have been writing about the team consistently since 2014. I would bring that same commitment and energy to this team.
I'd be more than happy to answer and questions that you may have. Also feel free to reach out to Charles Barkley as we're friends in real life. I hope to hear back from you soon.

A challenger appears! Welcome Mark Price! That all sounds really good! As a blogger you must have some solid knowledge on the NBA that will help you and the Lakers long-term, and it's great you've been in discussion with Charles Barkley, he's built a solid D5 team now led by Giannis! As the original post says - the Hiring Committee will be observing and discussing and will eventually make a decision no later than March 12th, but to be honest it will most likely be before that date if one of you guys can separate yourself from the others and show you've got what it takes!

Sounds good! Just let me know if you have any questions or anything like that. One question: what do you want your GM name to be if you get the job? Because JR Smith is an active player and, as part of the roleplaying aspect of D5, we don't allow active players as GMs.

Maybe Allen Iverson or White Iverson. I'm not sure but maybe if something like that if it's open. The rating player aspect has intrigued me. I've spoken with Charles Barkley about how he rates players and that's something I'm all for getting involved in. I'm very familiar with analytics and I incorporate them into my blog posts when I can. I'm not sure what analytics aspect you are looking for in this situation.

Here's what you do, pick a stat that fits your argument, say the stat and hope nobody refutes it with another stat. Case in point: Steven Adams Stock Watch He's over 50% on his 10-16ft jumpers. He shoots less than 5% of his attempts from that range, that's a very low sample size

Take a look at the GM List to pick a name that's not been taken already.

And yeah that's basically your arguments in all areas of life Charles Barkley... eh, yes, Delonte West is not an active player, but D5 is at least partly a roleplaying league and the day Delonte West owns or manages an NBA team will be a cold day in hell Sorry to be pedantic about this but it matters.

Elton BrandMark PriceThis is still very much an open race because so far both of you have currently been inactive and not been involved in the league. To keep you more involved you can both manage the Lakers for the time being: Both of you have my permission to offer trades using the Lakers roster and even post them in the Trading Section if you like. Trades will not be finalised until one of you is sworn-in as Lakers GM, but nevertheless you can act as if you are the GM as part of this trial period.
