D5 has been around for almost 11 years now and is one of the most stable sim leagues out there. We have several GMs who have 5+ experience, and over 75% of our league has been around for 1+ years. We have GMs who run their own sim leagues, GMs who spend countless hours scouting draft picks, GMs who spend hours writing media center posts. I guess my point is that this is an extremely veteran, competitive sim league and everyone takes it pretty seriously. Our current process for adding new GMs is sorta first-come-first-serve. Our waiting list is 20+ people, and once a position is open, Ian Noble emails the entire waiting list. Whomever claims the team first is given the team. I propose that we develop some sort of application process and get rid of the first-come-first-serve process. I think each hopeful GM should have to put in a bit of effort and at least prove that he/she knows what is going on. In the application you could talk about your basketball knowledge or other leagues you have been in. We can brainstorm exactly what would go into it, but at least something to prove that we are only adding enthusiastic GMs who appear to have a good head on their shoulders. Prospective GMs joining D5 should have an understanding of how sim leagues work. This would also potentially make the Assistant GM position much more useful, as it shows commitment to the league before even getting a team. It could also lead to more activity if prospective GMs are involved in discussions on the forum. I know it has been done numerous times, but it takes a special kind of person to join D5 without prior understanding of sim leagues and to be successful. Hopefully this new process will cut the crop down a little and make sure we are only adding the best GMs. We can either have Ian choose the GM who gets the team, or we could set up some kind of committee. Either way, I think this is a good step in the progression of D5.

Not a bad idea. Like we were talking about earlier - the best thing would be a newbie getting involved in the league, maybe creating media centre articles, power rankings, MVP/rookie watches or whatever, and for me to have a system that would bump them up the waiting list, or maybe restructure how I handle the waiting list altogether.

I know people are thinking of the Pistons with regards to this thread, but Ghazny Dimalen is back and has actually been an assistant to Clyde Drexler since he left last year. I've reinstated Ghazny back as Pistons GM - be more active than before please Ghazny! This thread can nevertheless count for future GM appointments though, I can foresee another one coming soon (LAL) anyway

I second the motion.. And just to add. Maybe, it is also time to have a system of firing current GMs.. We have good mature GMs here who would surely be up to the challenge of pushing this to another level of realism

Yah, I'd like to see this. Would possibly help curb new GMs coming in, trading all their picks for shit and leaving in a year after that doesnt get them a championship.

Here's an example what I'm preparing in the event that Kobe Bryant doesn't log on for another week. My Waiting List email will simply direct newbie GMs to this presentation: (work in progress) LA Lakers Open The LA Lakers are looking for a new GM! Previous GM: Magic Johnson retired after a Hall of Fame career and 11 years service You have one month to show the Hiring Committee you're up to the job of leading the league's most premier franchise!
What are we looking for before we appoint you as Lakers GM? Engagement and Activity
Someone who can show they will be an active member of Dynasty Five for a long time, to make the Lakers their own and build a great dynasty and to understand that it will be a job that will take many years! We want someone who wants to become part of the semi-roleplaying atmosphere of being a real NBA GM here at D5, who gets involved in rating players, day-to-day discussion and even posts media centre articles such as rankings, jersey switches, analytics, scouting reports or stories.
Knowledge
The Lakers roster is in a difficult place right now: not good enough to compete for a championship, but not really able to tank and rebuild due to possessing only two of their own first round draft picks over the next 4 years! With 4 players heavily burdening the Lakers salaries it will take a lot of time, patience, hard work and good decision making to turn this franchise around! The shrinking hard cap is putting pressure on some of the best teams in the league, so maybe exploiting that situation would be an avenue to explore first? Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure how the league functions!
As a sophomore Kyrie and Kobe teamed up for the Lakers here at D5 (jersey switch: Ian Noble ) How to Apply Reply to this thread to introduce yourself
Explain your experience with NBA basketball, which team you support, where you live etc. Possibly explain your plans for the Lakers if you were to take over as GM. Choose a GM name that's not been taken already Keep active as outlined above
Also have a read of What is Dynasty Five? After one month the Hiring Committee will meet to decide who gets hired for the job! note: even if you miss out on this team, showing you're a committed, hard working GM will put you first in line for any future team openings and ahead of everyone else on the waiting list.

Is 1 month too long? Thats a lot of time to be active without actually owning a team.
Maybe 2 weeks?

Hello, I go by DREV or Reverendree, I'm interested in the laker GM position if still available.
I'm currently a huge Cleveland Cavalier fan and was a big fan of the Shaq Kobe Lakers era.
In terms of my basketball experience, I'm just a fan who loves the game. I've played plenty of street basketball and watched a lot of Nba games. Also one of my hobbies just happens to be playing sport management games online, mobile, and Pc games.
My number one mission would be to get the Lakers back to a place of prominence. In my philosophy I believe that this can be achieved through a balance between free agency and the draft; I don't support tanking. The one element that all of my rosters will have is deep bench, good perimeter shooters, at least multiple two-way players, adequate centers that can rebound and play defense. Defense and a deep bench are my cornerstones. I will pursue superstars but no superstar is expected to carry the load along on my team. An example would be the way the Current Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets are constructed.
Thank you all for your time, and I would appreciate you selecting me as the next GM of the Lakers.
