New York Knicks Trade: 78 Iman Shumpert $2,616,975 $3,695,169 67 Gorgui Dieng $1,177,900 $1,228,700 $1,249,420 $1,277,752
Total: $3,794,875
Minnesota Timberwolves Trade: 81 Kevin Martin $8,419,277 $7,584,935 $6,833,275
Total: $8,419,277
Knicks are under the cap by 10 million+ so this works fine with him taking less than 5 million bucks in this trade.
I know James has been looking for an upgrade to his SG position, this gets him a much more proven guy who can help his team by scoring. Shumpert is a guy I've just always liked, and his rating is good enough that my team can still be similar to what it was last year, but with a more defensive focus. I'm also a fan of Dieng a little bit, but really just taking a chance on him, shaking some things up, and getting a player I like in Iman.

I accept. I like Shumpert and the potential of Deing but my team needs more scoring and KMart will provide that. Plus I still have enough defense with Aaron Gordon, Bismack Biyombo, Larry Sanders, and Omer Asik.

Kevin Martin is perennially medicore, and so is Iman Shumpert, but Martin is 31 and Shump is 24. Dieng is also 24 and one of the more promising guys from last year's rather dire rookie crop.
Clearly this trade favours the Timberwolves more. Enough trades like this is why some teams end up as shitty and why some end up kicking ass.

I know I am not on the TC but why on earth would NY want to win after they gave Anderson, Green, and Hickson away?

I spent good money on Martin just last offseason, and don't think he declined in any major way this year, so I say this as a guy who likes Martin...not just a guy trying to push my trade through...
How do you call 19 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal with 39% shooting from 3 and 89% from the FT line mediocre? I'm not saying he's a stud either, but he kinda blows Shumpert's 7 points, 4 rebound, 2 assist, 1 steal with 33% shooting from 3 and 75% from the FT line away.
The age is the only reason this is close to fair. If Martin and Shump were both 28 and putting up these #'s, I wouldn't even consider making this trade. Dieng didn't do enough for a long-enough period of time to be worth the gap in production of these two all by himself.
That's all I got. I get why some will like it more for me, but it's also possible I gave up a legitimate 20-point threat for two bench players.

Ugh I don't know about this one. Both Shumpert and Dieng are probably worth more than Martin individually... yet here they are grouped together. I agree with Ian about Martin's mediocreness. Sure, he got 19 ppg, but it was on 39% shooting for a bad team.
Dieng was straight balling at the end of last year, and with the imminent departure of Kevin Love, he's gonna get even more playtime. 11.9 ppg, 10.7 rpg, and 2.0 bpg in the month of April.
I have no strong opinion on Iman Shumpert, but the dude is still young and has been hyped for a while.
All this coupled with New York's recent rebuilding strategy... I'm just not seeing it on this one.

Whoa Barber, try checking actual facts buddy.
#1 - Martin did NOT shoot 39% from the field. He shot 43% from the field and 39% from 3, with 89% from FT.
That's really the biggest thing.
I also like that the team with the 17th best record in the league is "bad". I'm not saying they're great or good, but you can argue they were among the top 12-15 considering they played in the West.
As for the Dieng explosion, we've seen this out of guys before. Tobias Harris at the end of the 2012-13 season for Orlando went bonkers. People were hyping him up, he came back in a full year and lost 6% points on his 3pt shot, lost a full block per game, and his points and boards and assists were down. Do I like Dieng though? Yea some. He is rated 67 though. No one has brought up a rating increase thread, clearly his value isn't that high.
Bit annoyed with people using false facts and exaggerating facts, but you guys do what you gotta do.

Sorry, I misread your post as 39% fg instead of 39% from three.
Maybe if we hear a little more from McGowan about his plan here?

I accept. I like Shumpert and the potential of Deing but my team needs more scoring and KMart will provide that. Plus I still have enough defense with Aaron Gordon, Bismack Biyombo, Larry Sanders, and Omer Asik. It looks like he basically said it already. He wants more scoring, has other youth, has defense figured out. I think you guys may be overrating 9-15 good games from Dieng and overrating Shumpert's value, while also underrating Martin, but we'll wait to see what else James has to say I guess.

I'll accept this. Iman Shumpert isn't very good and I put very little value on him. I'd probably still rather have Minny's side of the deal since I'd take Dieng over an inefficient volume shooter with little upside, but he is still a decent player, so I don't think this is rejectable.
