I think there is some weight to what you're saying JR. But if that cbs rankings only uses the stats they posted (MPG, PPG, RPG, APG, FT%, and FG%) it skews their rankings.
I think we all can agree there's things players do that aren't reflected in the stat sheet. And I didn't see PER, Blocks, or Steals in their rankings, let along 3p% I am however on mobile so I may be wrong.
There's the eye test which is important as well. And, the ultimate goal is to make this resemble real life as much as possible, if I am not mistaken. And as long as guys here are somewhere near their real life averages, it seems ok to me, but there can be some problems with this too.
Anyways, I liked the post and idea JR. Just am worried CBS isn't including enough or the right stats. Just my 2cents though mane.

Our biased opionions are not good enough. At least stats are fact. Nothing gets closer to the truth than that. I just want the leagues ratings fair. It would make everything that much easier and more real life, including judging trades etc.

Only the Sith deal in absolutes!
Stats are definitely taken into account, they're already the main reference for player performance, but I'll be damned if I'll let them be the sole dictating factor behind player rating changes. Do you think Derozan would have those numbers if he played for Miami? Would Bosh's stats stay the same if he moved to Philadelphia?
You might've already said that above, but I'm at work and don't have much time to read.

Or is it to be used as a ranking system. Because people keep getting that confused. I think people need to look at their stats in game (at least for a starter so the minutes match) and think to themselves is this guy doing what he does in real life? (with some margin for error given that it's a computer) Or are we just ranking the guys? If we are doing that we might as well just go LBJ 100, KD 99, Chris Paul 98 and go all the way down the line. This is such a ridiculous argument because there is more to the OVR than just stats, otherwise it would be easy. This includes athleticism and those other stats.

Would Bosh's stats stay the same if he moved to Philadelphia? They would probably go down because he wouldn't be able to bum off of Lebron and Wade.

As far as what JR is saying, I think we should use statistics to place players in a RANGE and then let our opinions decide within that range. That would keep people, like Chris Bosh, from being higher than they should be.

That's what we already do isn't it? Sort of but I would like something like this: You need to do ONE of the following to be above a 95: - Average at least 30 ppg - Average at least 12 rpg - Average at least 12 apg You need to do ONE of the following to be above a 90: - Average at least 25 ppg - Average at least 10 rpg - Average at least 10 apg You need to do ONE of the following to be above a 85: - Average at least 20 ppg - Average at least 8 rpg - Average at least 8 apg You need to do ONE of the following to be above a 80: - Average at least 15 ppg - Average at least 6 rpg - Average at least 6 apg and so on.

Then lebron wouldn't be over a 95.... I produced an outline very quickly and am not suggesting these should be the exact numbers.

I guess I will say it for the zillionth time - we already have a really good rating system.
People submit their opinions, we tally up the ratings, we exclude the extreme opinions, we average what's left.
Also it provides room for discussion and interaction which is great.

I agree but it allows certain players to slip through the cracks *cough Chris Bosh cough*

The majority of the league are against dropping his rating. The system we have works perfectly because it excludes extreme opinions and provides as close a thing to a consensus as possible. Consensus is impossible, but we have the closest thing.

I hope Washington makes it to the ECF so that Nene can dunk on him.
